Need to work on my suspension
I was driving the 97 ss slp im going to buy and Why does it handle so much better. He does have all the suspension work done to it and I guess since it has less hp but wow what a difference its a totally different car around the autocross course he got a 66.78s run and I got a 74.93s run but I thought that was because I didnt shift as fast. Now I know that it can handle turns much easier. What should I get for my 02 to make it perform that great.

Deep Pockets!
There are topics already on this, but short recipe is performance alignment, good tires and brakes,Koni adjustables, Strano springs, 35mm front/22mm rear sway bars, Adj PHR bar, offset front bushings or adjustable front arms.
In that order, although the front springs and shocks should be done at the same time, unless you want to take it apart twice.

blacker than wesleysnipes- 98' trans am
tires are a very big part of it ..but if you want to pwn and give vettes a run for their money......koni/strano springs(there is no substitute so man up and buy them). good tires/sticky race compound. strano sway bars, a wyatts link, lca and relocation brackets. adj. front suspension.

Just FYI, lower control arms and relo brackets will put you out of ESP if you intend to autoX with SCCA, adjustable front upper control arms are also a no no.

performance alignment, good tires (kuhmo XS, or similar) and brakes. Koni adjustables and a 35mm bar will keep you in F Stock. For FS, wheels must be stock size, for WS6 and SS cars, that means 17 x 9's, and the only motor mod you can do is a catback system.
Strano springs, 22mm rear sway bar, Adj PHR bar, offset front bushings will move you into ESP, where you can also run bigger wheels/tires.
I'm in ESP now and I"m running Z06 18" wheels with 315's all around the car. In ESP you can also have motor mods. Intake, TB, Headers and a tune are all fair game. No head or cam swaps though. Rear lower control arm replacement (other than stock 1LE ones) are out, as well as relocated mounts. In ESP you are also not allowed to hammer any of the inner fender inside the plane of the hub. Fender rolling is ok.
Hope that helps, You can PM me if you have any specific questions

You think that the konis are better than the LG package? LG has put alot of money into R and D and they have used this same set-up in SCCA World Challenge championships and won. Nothing against koni's as i have double adjustable now. im just looking for the next level.

Depending on what class you want to race in. For autox, the koni's are the best way to go because you are not allowed to run coil overs if you want to stay in a class that you can be competitive in. For NASA track days, the rules are somewhat different. Not putting down the LG system, it's just about what the rules are.

From what i heard (this is what my dad said) he said you should run a smaller tire in the front... why do you use 315s all around???

From my experience, the fbody tends to push really bad with smaller tires in the front. I ran 295 17's and 315 18's last year and I had a bad push. the plus side is that I can rotate the tires now, front/rear and flip them on the rim when they camber wear.

it's tight, I have to run a 1/4 spacer. But I also have -2.5 camber which pulls the top of the tire inboard.
