Harley recommends (for carbd) upon startup that the rear cylinder be warm enough that you cant lay your hand on it before taking off. As far as the revving at stoplights is concerned, for me its reaction. The damned thing idles so low that its a knee-jerk type reaction to just blip the throttle because it seems like it is going to stall. It's a bitch when it does stall, so avoiding that i do.

you run your bike in the living room? you also are putting a lot of condensation in that motor when you run it for 2 minutes at a time.

The guys on fuelie 88's and sportsters piss me off. That bike will not load up. Also, why pipe it without a jet kit if you're carbed? Because alot of people are all for show and annoying people[/QUOTE]
problem is they will tell you they don't need to do anything cause it runs fine. they don't know how much better it would run with the proper fuel/air mixture.

that's it exactly, give the motor what it needs, no more no less, and it will reward you.

that's the beauty ain't it? the sweet music of a well tuned harley at idle with a nice set of pipes: potato-potato-potato-potato. all the jap wannabe imitators can manage is a boring:blubblubblubblub

Yep, it's freaking annoying! I live by a bar and I remember 3am many times getting woke up by guys leaving full throttle when I had to be up at 5am to work. Theres many reasons why I won't own a harley and one is I won't be associated with so many aholes who ride them.

FYI: don't get a place near a biker bar.

I was here before it opened... and it was just a restraunt before. It switched owners and its far from a biker bar, you'd get the 2 or 3 idiots like anywhere. It since switched owners twice and no longer an issue. No bikes and I don't get up at 5am.

Bump up the idle. Oil flow will be better that way too

yes that's still bad. you don't burn off the condensation until you are running at full temperature. better off not running it at all. if you're worried about long term storage, you can pull the plugs and spray a fogging oil into the cylinders. but you probably don't have it put away long enough to worry.
ps: you have heard of carbon monoxide poisoning right?

Also, his house must smell like ass. If I crank up my truck or one of the bikes it stains my shirt with the smell until I wash it.

Ohhhhhh i see well i guess ill just leave it sitting there till i take it out and start riding again should only be about a month before its nice outside again.

And no my house does not smell bad, the bike is in the living room up front of the house. Its not exactly the living with couches in it and stuff i guess you could call it a "den"? so no my house does not stink and when i run it i do open up the front door so it doesnt stink.

I had a 1960 XLCH that had an engine built by an Unauthorized Harley Dealer in Beaufort, SC. It had a 3/4 cam and took a half hour of kick starting to get it going. Didn't worry about condensation. My 2009 Softail starts on a dime and I ride away. Been riding bikes and Hot Rods for over 50 years and never heard anyone having any engine damage by starting up an engine and only running it a few minutes.

you may be referring to our discussion about condensation? the subject was that while in storage, or simply parked for an extended period of time due to winter time or whatever, it IS NOT ok to just start the motor every once in awhile and and then shut it off after a minute or two. you are right about letting it run a minute or two before riding off, that's different. we pretty much already agreed on that.
maybe i misunderstood what you were saying.
