    Glock 32 vs. S&W P99

Which is a better gun to have?

Also which ammo would you recommend as a better choice?

    The glock 32 used .357sigs and the S&W is a 40 cal I believe.
But I was also told you can buy a new barrel for the glock to be able to use 40 cal?

    thx in advance.

That's probably going to boil down to personal preference for you. For me, the answer is the Glock 32.

The .357 Sig and the .40 are so similar in terms of stopping power, it really doesn't matter which one you use, its going to matter which one of those two models YOU can use more effectively.

Some of the nicer indoor ranges let you rent handguns. See if you can't try them both out, and see which one feels right to you. Be able to hit your intended target, so go with the one that you feel most comfortable with.

As far as the caliber discussion,
Long ago, after reading up on the Miami Shootout of '86, I was a 10mm guy (Colt Delta). It was probably a Masaad Ayoob article I read that claimed an early shot placed by a federal agent with a 9mm hit one of the suspects in the arm, and the bullet passed through and struck the chest, but stopped inches from the heart. The bad guy, armed with an assault rifle, went on to kill another agent after being hit with that shot.

So I've always been a penetration fan--when selecting a primary handgun.

In the mid 90's I switched to a Glock 23, and now I'm a .357 Sig fan, and carry the Glock 32. I like the .357 Sig better because I believe it has better penetration through car doors and other obstacles than a .40. It also has a bottle-necked shell that is theoretically a more reliable feeder in a semi-automatic handgun (although I've never had a feed issue with either caliber in the Glocks).

The Texas Highway Patrol carries .357 Sig.

And yes, the Glock can be switched from a 23 to a 32 simply by switching the barrels. The .357 Sig round is a necked-down .40 case. So .40 cal and .357 magazines are exactly the same.

To me, the .357 Sig is a 9mm Magnum. I love it, and the Glock is very user friendly. I can't say enough about Glock. I'm a huge fan of the simplicity (in function and breakdown), ease of use, reliability, and lethality of the Glock handgun.

Seems like the prices are close to each other. I Like the glock, the Smith seems more like a big walther (prob because it is) And It looks like the mag release is just like the p22 wich is a lever right behind the trigger, I prefer a button to push to release my mags.

I would love to have both, but if I had to chose..........Im more of a glock guy. But I think Id rather have a .40 cal over a .357 sig. just my opinion. Ive never shot a .357 sig gun, but I see more ammo for the .40 for sale than the .357 sig. So I would recomend a glock 23, I dont like switching barrels.

Well right now I have the glock 32 but I have a chance to do a straight trade for the p99.
This is why I am asking.
So If i pick up a 23 barrel it could use the 40 cal?
Is there any disadvantages when switching barrels?
If I were to do that I would use the 40 cal barrel for practice and the 357 for walk around use.

Sorry for if any dumb questions, I am still kinda new to guns.

Now I see. I didnt know you were asking about trade advice. I would not trade if I were you.

From what I read, the glock 32 barrel is interchangeable with the glock 23. So if you get a glock 23 barrel, then you could switch back and forth between the 2 calibers just by feild stripping and switching barrels. The glock has to be a 3rd gen though. Make sure you get a glock brand barrel, and not aftermarket.

You should be able to use your current magazines with .357 sig or .40 cal ammo. But they are differant part numbers, so maybe you should buy a .40 cal magazine as well to go along with your barrel. I have read they will work, but I wonder why they are differant part numbers if they are not at least a little differant.

    Either will kill you dead.
Which feels better in your hand?
Which sights come up quickest on target for you?
Which mag release is the easiest for you to release?
    Caliber debates are useless.
A .22 in the forehead will kill you quicker than a 1/4" miss with a .45.
So which gun can quickly and accurately shoot and reload in a crisis.
Settle on one carry and practice practice practice.

I can draw and fire my entire 15 round magazine hitting center (6") of a target from 25 feet in less than 4 seconds. I can then reload and empty the 2nd magazine. All from first draw in less than 8 seconds. 31 rounds (1 in the pipe to begin with) draw/fire/reload/fire and be accurate. I am almost to 7

....and I must say the biggest factor of accurate firing for me lately is the front sight being bright orange.... http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129441

    ^Yes I have a gen 3.

So where would be the best place to buy a glock 23 barrel for the 40 caliber?

Why do you want to practice with one round and carry another.

^cheaper and easier to find the 40 cal (down here that is)
and I read somewhere that the .357 sig does more damage, whether that is true or not I am not sure.

ok, here's my take. Don't do the trade.

as far as .357 sig vs 40 s&w goes I personally don't think it's enough to matter but YMMV
