When I took my air Pump hose off all I had to do was remove it from the EGR ports on the headers, pull hose out (it loops around the back of the Intake, then chased it to the Air pump. I reached in with a pair of snips and cut the hose near the air pump. Pulled the Air pump fuse, plug the egr port on the Intake

You need to remove that nut directly below it in the picture that is mounted to the Valve Cover. The Unit is mounted to that bracket that the nut is holding down, however, that bracket is also bolted to the rear of the head. Feel the bracket with your hand and follow it to the head. Loosen the bolt on the head and the bracket should come out since the end of it is open.
Hope this info is clear to understand.

Rereading your question, I would probably just block the ends off and leave it there rather than remove.

Its just a control valve. Like said loosen the bolt on the rear of the head and take out the bolt on ht eedge of the valve cover. Pull the wire on the top and its out. I had to pull that part to get my fat hands back there to run the hoses for my catch can. Its easy to put it back on too.

if i dont block off the ends will it do anything? that hose was taken with the hose still in but i have since removed it along with the pump. also mine is a 2001 so all i have to block off is the hole in the air intake correct? or is there another place i need to plug up

There were two bolts on mine. One under the coil pack which was a pita for me and another piece of the bracket was bolted to the backside of the motor. Follow that black piece that's holding it. You can probably wiggle it and just feel around with your hand.
I was able to remove everything with a small (10mm?) wrench.

The diverter valve is clipped to a metal bracket that is bolted down. It came out pretty easily on our car. There is a vacuum line that comes from an adjacent solenoid. You'll need to cap that off after removing the diverter valve. You can also remove the solenoid and cap the vacuum feed off at the source.

The valve he is removing is for the secondary air system.
