Yeah, the short wheelbase and having to sit on the back when you're big will get you on a yz80. When we finally decided my bro would never touch it and sold it, I was already 6' and 180 pounds. That hanging off of the back of a piped and jetted '03 yz85

had alot of fun playing around on that bike when I moved on to my crf250. That's the fastest 20 horsepower bike ever

I have had one as a lil toy for a few years ( woods behind my house are a bit tight for a big boy bike) and everytime I look at it and think man that thing is lil bike, you get on it and the fucker screams and pulls the front end up through 4th gear lol I'm 5'7 so yeah its a bit cramped but not unrideable. At 6' ft you must really feel big on it lol But yeah it amazes me when the lil dudes rip on those suckers.

I skipped the small slower bikes and started out with a cbr954 and last was an r1... next year going hyabusa my friend wants to sell me... but for under 1k hard to beat the price.

i'm not sure that starting on a liter bike is a ballsy or a stupid idea. based upon my experiences and what i've witnessed firsthand i'd lean more towards stupid. i never recommend a liter bike as a first bike...they're incredibly unforgiving.

Even riding on the dirt since four, now 16 i'd start with something like an sv-650 or at most a new 600cc racer. I'd love a Buell 1200 though, the version with bigger ergos

My stepdad had a Buell XB12R Firebolt, that's a bike I want to own someday.... But no way I would start out on the bike.

Growing up on dirtbikes will make a huge difference in the shit that someone who is new to bikes will haveto think about over subconscious thinking for a dirt person, as far as size tho, its all about how much you want to respect them, my first bike i had ever even ridden on was my 83 2stroke 490cc at 13years old, but for a favorite all around street bike, i love riding my buddies 954 any chance i can get

I started out and learned on my 00 zx6r. Pretty easy bike to ride and i can practically make the bike take off from ma stop without even giving it gas. I did ride my friends 07 r6 and dam those things are sweet too. I didnt like the riding position too much though kinda felt like i was a little forward compared to mine. But a 600 is a good bike to start with and in my case my little ninja was perfect

I gotta show her off a bit, she needs some work but i did paint her myself for $80

For most people your right... but I did ride dirt bikes and such all my life and I don't mean jumps but trails and such where it was always wide open. To me its not much different. I am 6'4" 230 and I didn't want to get something small and uncomfortable. Plus I got the cbr954 for 1400 wrecked and couldn't pass it up. I never had a problem riding them and I'm a speed freak to being with. It doesn't matter if you ride a 250 or a 1000, if you ride like an idiot that will bite ya either way. I also ride with a friend who has a busa, my buddy with a 500 something rode with us... he couldn;t keep up lol

Bingo, trails are the real skill builder, always a new situation. You never know what to expect even on a trail you've done before. Just a path out in nature not prepped by man (usually). Logs, creeks, mud sand, all that good shit. Honestly if I were to spend my money on a bike I wouldn't waste it on a slowbike that i'd get tired of. They're not nearly as good on the highway either, run out of motor and gear. And a "slow bike" such as an sv or Ninja 650 that runs maybe 11's-12's and well over 100 topped out will get you VERY hurt as well, just not as easily as a real sport bike.

Why I am looking at the Katana, is because it's cheap. To gain the basic skills, basically a learning bike. So if or when I lay this bike down, it's oh well it did not cost so much as lets say a R6. Then when I get to the point where I feel confident on a bigger bike, with some miles under my belt. Then I would spend the money.

ah yes. well if you have been riding cycles your whole life then a liter series street bike isn't really a big deal.

The biggest thing is you have to pay attention to cars not objects like rocks and logs that don't move. I said I would never own a street bike and now I regret the years I didn't. I admit I'm a little scared every time I ride, I had deer and people pull out in front of me many times. I think what helped me the most next to diding trails all my life was riding with a friend who was experienced on street bikes. I never did take the classes to get my license, but plan to in spring and it helps with insurance but I was paying like 13 a month without collision on my r1... never thought it would be that cheap.

How old are you? How much you pay?

I looked once, basic is find. But collision, hmm... NVM, lol. But this is when I was with geico, I am with allstate now. It's so much cheaper.

Edit: Yes, that's what worries me the most is other people. I watch other people, how they act around bikes. As if there not there, scares me. I think if I do get a bike, I want a bright color one, with bright color helmet to go with it. Then get one of those Mr Joe or what ever jackets. Has those plates in them, but still breathable for when it's hot as hell. Then be sure to have shoes to cover my ankles, I wear jeans all the time so I am covered there.

Taking your helmet off when you got a broke neck? I know some mx helmets have pads that will release and make it to where you can remove the helmet without disturbing the head too much.

Guess, I could look into that. I just think, if the person is breathing. Leave the helmet on. Only if there not breathing, then take it off and do what needs to be done...

sv650 is really all the bike you'll ever need on the street
