Call your doctor.
Go to AA.
Listen to what people who have already quit drinking have done.
Get a sponsor.
Go to 90 meetings in 90 days.
Have your wife go to Al-Anon which is for spouses of alcoholics.
Everyone is different but if you want to not only quit drinking but also learn how to enjoy life you need to learn how to live without booze.
So call your doctor and go to AA. I don't care if you don't want to, just do it. I don't care if you don't like the meetings, think they are for people other than you, think you don't belong, think the people are weird... I don't care what you think... What I do know is if you call your doctor and ask his advice, and if you go to meetings, and if you ask your wife to go to Al-Anon, you will build a support system for yourself.
The bottom line is you have to make being sober, (not just being dry), your number one priority. Period... No exceptions.
Do it now.
Everyone has "opinions" about the best way to sober up, what works and what doesn't... Some people like AA and some don't... It does not matter. If you want to be sober and want to learn to enjoy life without booze go see your doctor and start going to AA. This is the most simple process that is available for the majority of people. It won't be easy but it will be rewarding.
Whatever it is you have been doing to quit or reduce your drinking has not worked. Do it the way others have done. After you sober up and have your brains back feel free to modify things, but unless you get yourself sober you are not thinking with a full deck.
Call your doctor and see him/her.
Go to AA.
Involve your wife in the process.
Do the above and follow instructions given to you by others. You do not know better than they do because you need the help and they have already straightened themselves out. Do it.

You have an addictive personality. You need to replace it with a positive addiction and stay busy.
Create a task and a reward system. "Tonight I'm going to clean out the garage. After I'm done, I'll treat myself to TAKE OUT* dinner."
*Less chance to be tempted than sitting at a restaurant/bar.

Thanks for the opinions. I see my shrink on thursday and therapist on saturday. I have been trying to do it by myself. But yesterday in order to try and change I went to some relatives house to try and give me something to do and talk. My wife has been working to much out of town lately but when things slow down you is going to go with me. Guess Ill take it from there.
