Camaro's are a pretty popular car and statisctics I saw show that they are in the top 10 in auto related deaths. Doesn't mean they are the most dangerous, but with the number of them out there and accidents involving them that result in death is the reason they would be so high. Pretty simple really, say there are 100,000 camaros, 10,000 wreck, 1000 people are killed... where maybe theres 10,000 of another car, 1,000 wrecks and 500 killed.... percentage of deaths maybe lower, but overall number would be higher. I didn't read the article and they may not be in the top 10 now, but it is just facts... not the numbers I posted. But insurance articles I saw years back showed they were in the top 10.

If you read my novel of a post SHines-IT you'd notice I make reference to your accident. I'd like to see the creator of this list try that in his car!!!! i wonder what he drives. A Bricklin SV-1 perhaps??

I know and IDC who says other. I know these cars are very safe, hell I did not even have or need a roll cage. But, they really did need to put better rear ends into the car...

So far, my stepdad will kinda sorta rebuild it, he seems determined to rebuild it for my mom. So I think he's buying it from me. Either $3,500-4,000. Or the Corvette + $1,000.

I will probably just buy that 1980 T/A down the road. There's a few other cars I am eying. But have my heart set on the classic T/A. I will then either sell the falcon and build the T/A up. But I found a local dealer who's willing to give me a nice penny for it, and I may finance a 2004 SS Siverado and DD it, keep the T/A for the weekend. That's what is going on now... Probably happen in a few days, Stepdad is look at some firebird's for the roof or shell, has not decided what route to take.

The way the article is done is it looks at the survivability of some cars then it looks at drivers and third party vendors for others. Its poorly written and very biased it has no real facts or statistics to back it up. While your point may be valid the fact that the Camaro is the only one used in this way when all the others is based on crash test videos but no real statistics or exploding tires just shows the article is crap. There is no consistent way of grading all the cars involved in it he just picks and chooses.

the 1980 looked nice. glad to hear there is still life for your TA. Personally I prefer to own the latest and greatest of a breed but there is no arguing the classic lines of a bird of any year. enough off topic let's get back to the business of poking holes in this opinion piece on safety.

I agree with GD he prob got his # from insurance claims involving death of occupants. Fact is a lot of F-bodys met their fate with teens driving way too fast for their own good. But I'm sure the same can be said in 2009 about the Mitsu Evo. It doesn't make the car inherently unsafe. It makes the typical driver inherently unsafe. I was surprised how low my insurance was when I added the hawk. Given the fact I knew these are considered "high risk" cars. Thankfully my ins claims they insure the driver and not the car so the type I drive doesn't have too much sway on my premiums.

I do recall an article recently about the most expensive cars to insure and i think the Evo placed second on that list.... and yes the list included exotics. Fact is the average Evo driver in 2009 is likely to be the average Camaro driver in 1999.

I saw this article yesterday...i was just about to post it....one reason the camaro does bad is crash tests are the sub frames...it doesnt have a solid stand alone chassis, so they tend to rip apart in wrecks

with standard frame stiffening equipment im sure it would do much better

Over the summer I watched a crash on TV with a Smart for 2 and I think a Prius. The Prius won.

I think the Smart has the WORST crash safety standards currently.

Surprised mine isn't mentioned, the tank's behind the seat durrrhuurr. Or atleast the non-exploding exploding saddle tanks on the 73-91 trucks.

The video actually showed a pretty safe passenger if there had been one. Front was effed... cockpit, looks pretty good to me.

Lame site anyway... just some punk's view of what they think safe cars are.
