The curb weight of the 2010 SS is ~3880 lbs. The curb weight of a 2007 GT500 is ~3920 lbs. Difference is ~40 lbs.
If one is a pig, I'd say the other qualifies too.

Fat pig this and that, you guys do know 3500lbs curb weight of the 4th gen is still considered pretty heavy in the world of race cars. I just think its funny that half the guys on this site are mad that the newer pony cars are 3800lbs when if you are really that concerned abotu weight you arent driving the right car as 3400-3500lbs isnt light. My 4 door, AWD, IRS having, auto, turbo car weighs just a tad over 3300lbs with a 1/2 tank and is the same length as my T/A. With more mechanics and electronics more room and more storage space still weighs less.

Yup - 3500 lbs is absolutely heavy in the world of race cars. 3900 is even heavier.
And?

What i meant is why is everyone getting the panites russled up over a car that weighs 300lbs more when if they were concerned that much about weight would have opted for a lighter car or done weight saving mods to there f-body. Was just saying no f-body is light from factory, so why would this car be since it was built more solid with more options and heavier parts. They were trying to eliminate the reasons why f-bodys didnt sell well such as interior build fit and finish and the rough ride of a live axle car. The interior is nicer looking much less cheap feeling and has alot more sound blocking and IRS was the obvious option for a more comfy ride. All these things add weight to an already heafty platform. Its not that the car is bigger since the width and length are damn near the same, the 5th gen is slightly taller than the 4th. So its just more stuff cramped into roughly the same size car with a simular engine and trans(manual wise).

It's heavy (very heavy) because it is built upon the Zeta platform (G8), which was not designed with a "pony car" in mind. And of course, all those creature comforts and neat "do-dads" that everybody has to have these days.

You are exactly right. It cracks me up when I read all the people on here complaining about a measly 3800 lbs. car when their own 4th gens aren't far behind. 90% of the 4th gens will come in over 3500 lbs. (Excluding the non option cars of course.) All 3 of my 4th gens are over 3500 and I've seen alot of others weigh the same as well.
To crab about a 3800 lbs. car seems pointless to me. If these people want light they need a little 2 seater sports car,,,,not a 4 seater grocery getter.

Prepare to get cracked up more. 3900 lbs for a Camaro (or Mustang) is a ridiculas weight, in my opinion. 4100+ for a Challenger is ever more ridiculas.
Weight is the enemy of performance - all faucets of performance. It's also the enemy of economy, efficiency, and parts longevity (most especially in race conditions).
So go ahead....laugh it up, fuzzball! (I hope you recognize the humorous reference to a rather famous motion picture).

Hang on.
I've had (3) 4th gen LS1 Z28's. All have had the PEG with power windows locks and seats. They all had/have leather, monsoon and 2 had/have chrome wheels. All had/have T-tops. The heaviest with between a 1/4 and an 1/8 of a tank of fuel was just over, and I mean 20lbs or less, 3400. Now that I have a Magnaflow on the car, mine weighs in at 3382. Stock it was 3406, but it might have had a 1/4 tank stock versus an 1/8 of a tank with the Magnaflow.
My LT1 F-Body was up over 3500 lbs, but the LS1 is lighter.
You can feel the difference in acceleration between a stock C5 and a stock F-body. It's the weight 200 or so pounds makes a difference. You can feel the difference between a stock LS1 GTO and a stock F-Body. 300 or so pounds makes a difference. The new 5th gen is 500 pounds heavier than the 4th gen and in my opinion that is going the wrong way. Refinement or not.
GM needs to take what it has learned in keeping the Vette light, my C6 weighed 3136, and use some of that on the Camaro.

How about a 2400lb. car with a 400whp LS1. Is that enough diet for you? Mind you the chassis isn't GM....

Hmm Odd I had a friend with an SS (99)with the same options and his was almost 3600 no driver.
Mine weighed in at 3405 (3606 with me in it on same scale in the same month) with a Moser 9 with nodular centersection, chrome ZR1's (17x11 rears and 315 tires), SFC's, heavier non chromemoly adj PHR and Torque arm (way heavier than stock), but saved some with the smaller converter, headers and jack and tire removal. Jury is still out whether or not the TD's dumped b4 axle saved or added any. Then again my car is a 1SC car with a little under a half tank. Never weighed it before I added mods but I'd gues it was in the mid to higher 3300 range on a 1 option car (rear defroster).

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, my well-optioned 99 T/A M6 was right around 3500 lbs w/o me and very little fuel.
