navy blue metallic- 2002 Camaro SS
My kill story....should it have been?!?
Soooo...not gonna go into a long story here, but I pulled up next to a SVT Cobra the other night, looked real nice and clean, like it was actually taken care of, so I roll down my window to compliment the driver out of common courtesy and respect for a nice car. Guy looks at me and says thanks, but in that shorty, snotty way that hints he thinks he's better. I ask him what year and he says 2003. I ask him if he wants to run them, I honestly don't think I can take him, but I would like to know where I stand. He agrees
Well, we take off and I spin like crazy, get no grip and he just pulls on me, leaving me behind. He lets off and lets me catch up, and I ask for a rematch since I spun. We go again from about 25mph roll and I spin a tad from the initial, he got the early jump on me, but then something I honestly didn't think happen actually does....
I gain on him and I leave him behind by about at least a car and a half by the time I hit 4th gear (started from 2nd). So this time I let him catch up and we run them one more time to pretty much the same results. He gets upset, doesn't say a word and just drives off. All times, I didn't see him spin or hear him miss a gear.
?????
I thought these cars were rated around 390hp from the factory stock, and as far I could tell, he definitely had an aftermarket exhaust but that's all I could tell, since he didn't stick around for me to ask him what'd he done. And I honestly don't believe the car had issues, cause it sounded very strong and by how clean it was, it definitely looked well-taken care of. So then I'm thinking, it had to be him, he must've been a shitty driver, but how much can you fuck up to still lose like that?
My mods are long tube headers, cat-back Borla exhaust, with no cats, a ported throttle body and the free air mod, have minor suspension mods (Eibach lowering springs, Edelbrock shocks and anti-sway bars, front tower strut bar)
Anyone have any ideas?

Cobras do very poorly if they are hot. If the weather was hot there and he had been driving hard for a bit then he might have been down on HP.
I'd take the 2 outta three and be happy.
Nice Kill

thanks guys haha definitely not upset by the wins at all, in fact I was and still am thrilled that I beat him twice, just didnt think I would have =)
And it was at night and in the low 70s, so not too cool but not hot either....but that does make sense if he had been running around for awhile already, my car had just gotten to operating temp

thats what i was thinking. I see alot of cobra wannabes in NJ.. maybe like some badges and a hood. alot of them dont change the bumper and it still just says mustang instead of cobra
i dont know for sure but im pretty sure if its a real cobra it says "COBRA" on the rear bumper.
either way nice kill

I'm pretty certain it wasnt a clone, as I pulled up, I saw the SVT badge on the back by the taillights and read Cobra on his bumper cause he had it filled in a diff color.
That and when I raced him, I had my window down halfway and could hear his s/c both times I passed him.
Unless he was running his boost low for whatever reason

it's a plausible story--- not all cars are 100% equal he might just have a slow one

Red Fire- 2007 Mustang GT/CS
Driver mod for the win !
Good Kill, always nice to spank a car you thought you would lose too..
And grats to you on being gracious enough to attempt to compliment another guy on his ride... Too many fanboi's out there as it is.
Glad to see another man that can respect a fast car no matter who built it.

Black/Black- '00 Firebird WS6 T/A
He'll be modded next time you see him
You'd be surprised about our cars, when those '03 Cobras first came out I had some buddies (1 SS and 1 WS6 Formy) who tag-teamed one and both pulled hard. All 3 were stock as a rock, no filter, no lid, no nothin. Formy guy got serious with a 408, SS got wrecked and the Cobra guy did the usual mods and then a KB rebuild when he popped it. He and the Formula are both in the low 9's now lol.

Congrats OP, the Cobra isn't impossible to beat like most let on to be. I can see this thread getting locked or ending badly due to "Every other Cobra" thread on this board.

Man: The Mods you are fighting,
they are the biggest Men I have ever seen. I
wouldn't want to fight them!
Me: That is why no one will remember your name!

navy blue metallic- 2002 Camaro SS
well I hope it doesn't get locked, so don't cause it to be ya bastards!! LOL
I was just wondering if I should have won that, cause I thought I shouldn't have but according to what everybody has said, I should have and I'm glad I did. And I'm definitely sure that next I see him, if I do, he will have modded his Cobra for sure.
As for me, my next power mods will be heads and cam, but I definitely need to get me some subframe connectors first! Thanks to the torque flex, I already have a dent on both of my rear quarter panels.

It won't be just one person that wrecks this thread. Some people will tell you it was a fluke, others will tell you it wasn't, others will tell you the truth and it will end up in a pissing match. I have seen it way to much. But off with the negitive, I hope this one doesn't come to that
Edit: And with H/C you'll be eating them up lightly modded or not
