Question Jeep SRT8 or Trailblazer SS

Which would you buy if you had a choice?

Because as much as I like the Grand Cherokee's...they have nothing but problems.
I can only imagine a performance tuned one.

    1997 Grand Cherokee
    1999 Firebird.

I looked at both of those a few weeks ago and the Jeep got my vote. It just looks soooo much better. It had a $10,000 markup though. Sticker was $45K and they were asking $55K! The TB was cheaper but it didn't look as nice or have that great sound the Jeep had.

Plus - you gotta be kidding about build quality of the trail blazer...........

my mothers front bumper almost fell off 2 weeks into owner ship and it only had 100 miles on it.

I don't know about the TBSS build quality.
I just know that the Jeep's isn't that great.

Not sure I would really need either vehicle though.

Depends on what you're after. If stock performance and looks is your main concern, I'd go with the SRT8. But if you still want some utility and aftermarket performance options, go with the TB SS. The Jeep can only tow 3,500lbs and that's after you relocate the exhaust and install a trailer hitch. The TB SS can tow a car right from the factory. Plus there are more aftermarket parts for the LS2 than the Hemi. If it was gonna be my only vehicle and I didn't neet to tow much and wasn't gonna mod much, I'd go with the Jeep. If I already had a proper sports car that I wanted to be able to tow around, or had a boat, I'd go with the TB SS.

good info on the above... I like the styling of the Jeep and my gf has a 2000 grand cherokee and hers has great quality as far as I'm concerned...
I swear one of the March or April main car mags compares these two but I couldnt find the article online...
here's a comparison you might find interesting:

I've owned both a Jeep Grand Cherokee and Envoy SLT. The Envoy has been, by far, a better vechicle. Its roomier, has better options, gas mileage, and needed less maintenance. I have two kids and their comfort and safety is important. Plus, it nice to have a vechicle that's able to tow our TA when needed.

I also wanted to add: Our Envoy has 90,000+ miles and never had a single maintenance issue. I was invovled in a pretty bad crash that took it down a large inbankment and into a ditch. It kept my family safe and after all the repair work was done, it continues to run strong as the day we bought it.

i would get the srt8 its a lot nicer truck. as far as the problems go i cant argue with that. the brand new cherokee is in the shop next door to me all day long every day. so who knows how its gonna handle the big 6.1. but dont get it twisted the trailblazer isnt the worlds best built vehicle either. the interior is from hunger, the body gaps are awful, the styling in general is pretty ugly. i dont know about the rest of the country but it has not been a huge sales success in my neck of the woods. the s10 blazer before in my opininon is actually better. as stated before the on a pure "i wanna mod it" standpoint, you cant argue with the proven ls2 in the trailblazer. i think it really comes down to money and what styling you like best. i always felt a performance suv is an oxymoron.

Thanks for all the replys. What it will be mostly used for is for my girlfriend driving to and from work and a monthly trip to Buffalo to see the in-laws, about 3.5 hours. Right now she has a Jeep Liberty and it's too small for me, I'm 6'4" 250, and her, our two Labs, and luggage. It has to be all wheel drive because the winters around here suck. Towing isn't a concern because I have a Sierra for that. My WS6 is way too small for the trip. She is a state trooper so I can make the trip at very high speeds, that why I was looking at the SRT8 or the SS. I need something that can accelerate, handle reasonably well and stop. The SRT8 has my vote right now. Brembo breaks, 420 hp, Bilsteins, & looks. Gas milage isn't a real concern. Nothing is that good at 100 mph.

    Cassie,

Did you rent that trailer from UHAUL? I tried renting one to pull my Camaro with my Expedition and they wouldn't let me. Next time I'm gonna tell them I'm pullin a Geo.

wow you have a gf that's a state trooper and it's okay to haul ass like that.
wish my gf could provide me with a free pass on the highway!
I'm with you, I think the Jeep looks amazing and is as fast as the current BMW M3 to 60.
But not really an offroader with that setup, that's the downside and it's a freakin Jeep!
