Fastest 98-02 SS??
Saw one in mmff that ran 12.8, but this takes the cake. If its all stock.

ya this is a stock camaro, a guy in a local f-body club from long island ran this, however, its an 02 so the possibility of an ls6 block in there is possible......

virtually 0. the only difference in the blocks is the coolant and oil routes. now if it was an ls6 long block that means heads cam and valvetrain difference. the ls6 block in f-bodies were still produced with the same internals, heads, and manifolds as the ls1 block from 02. the coolant and oil routes did nothing for power. the heads on an ls6 longblock account for most of the power.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
Down at sea level with MT DR's on a cold day. I'll believe that. Especially a 2002 as it has the best intake and exhaust. We've had some stockers run 13.0's here in Phoenix. Take away .3 sec for the 3500 DA and you've got 12.70's.
Late 4th gens (01 and 02) were/are the best bang for the buck.

I hear alot of people say this. Still im not sure. Every ls1 I have seen dynoed right around 300rwh reguardless of year or model. 01-02 have a better intake but they also have a smaller cam. Guess it doesnt even matter since no one really has a stock ls1 anymore lol.

OHHHH BOYYY!!!! Looks like I have to educate some people ONCE again.
Google can be your friend and search can be your friend but the LS6 makes more power. I have all the info but not accessible at the moment. Here is what I know off hand....
A: LS6 Block is stronger
B: LS6 Block is slightly different color (Darker in color)
C: #12561168 part number for the LS6 block found behind the Driver side head ( will need a mirror and some good angles to see, easiest when the head is off)
D: LS6 block has 87% more ventilation versus an LS1 block between the rod/crank webbing resulting in decreased crankcase pressure and increased piston ring sealing.
E: 15% of 2001's got the LS6 block, 25% of 2002 got the LS6 block
F: LS6 block is made with different aluminum, which is why the color difference. Increases strength and weights less then LS1
G: Power increase over LS1 is said to be between 5 - 15 rwhp depending on who you talk to.
H: LS6 block has approximately 500 more usable RPM's due to the ventilation.
I: LS6 uses a different casting process then the LS1 resulting in tighter tolerances all around.
J: LS6 has better oil flow at higher RPM's resulting in less internal wear.
Thats all I can remember off hand. YOU WANT THE LS6 if you can find it, far superior block. I was lucky enough to find out I had one when I pulled the Heads off to do my H/C.
Part number for LS6 intake off of F-Body is #12561184
Part number for LS6 intake off of Z06 is #12573572Last edited by blackSS01; 09-08-2009 at 02:03 PM.

I'd use a LS6 block for a few reasons....firstly to make sure you have got a LS6 block look on the back ( use a mirror) of the block on the drivers side by the transmission and you should see the number #12561168.....about 20% of the FBodies in 01 received an LS6 block.....and of course all the Vettes....the LS6 is GM's best block....has much better oiling capabilities, extra webbing around the cylinders for strength....there are cutouts that allow the air to flow from one cylinder pair to the other at high speeds to prevent too much pressure on the underside of the piston....LS6 blocks have a hole machined thru the main webs to improve bay-to-bay breathing......the hole cures the bay-to-bay oil vapor pumping issues.
As for your aftermarket question there are a ton of manufacturers/setups that will easily get you to your goal of 475HP. I use Patriot heads myself....but Dart and many others make good flowing heads for the LS6......yes get as much of the ECM/wiring harness etc. as you can from the donor to make life much easier.....For your TH400 our sponsor Summit can hook you up with the adpater you will need....

I know I blew through this so hopefully others will join in...man this time change has screwed me up!

Bottom line is HP means nothing; it's just a number. It's what you run in the 1/4 mile that matters.

You can have 500HP and run shit times if you don't plant the power to the ground properly with the supporting suspension and drive-train modifications.
You can also have 500HP and have a driver in the car who has no idea how to handle that much horsepower or shift properly, if a M6, which equals shit times.
Obviously more HP means faster times...assuming, like you mention, SUPPORTING MODS are completed.
You can have 1000HP and launch the car at 6500RPM with a stock 10-bolt and your time will be "infinity".

The ls6 block cars make no more power than the same year ls1 block cars. The valve train is the same and they breath the same. Only guys with ls6 blocks believe it makes a difference in anyway other than the obviously better oil circulation and strength. But the ls1 blocks can still hold quite a bit and they both run the same times down the track. Yes if you find a car with a ls6 block its nice to have but it wont be any faster than a ls1 block car. I saw a 00 SS with 170k on it dyno 317whp stock except filter. From personal experince its the ls1 cars with the 241 cast heads that seem to pull higher trap speeds and slightly faster times than the 853 heads. And those 241 head cars are late year 2000 f-bodys and 01 and 02 f-bodys

Easily done,,,if anyone noticed, that's at Atco Raceway, one of the faster tracks in the country. They are at sea level. It's the place most magazine test cars go as well, to produce the best numbers. They sometimes have negative DA numbers out there.
Looking at the MPH (110) tells me the car has way more potential. With a good 1.6-1.7 60 foot time that trap speed will get you bottom 12's no problem. You can get a car to go 12.60's easily with just a 105 mph trap speed if it's setup properly. So that car still has alot left on the table.
Although setting up the suspension properly to take advantage of it, even if you don't touch the motor, Still gets away from the stock theme of things.
