1998 Z with a corvette cam?
I've heard that there was a shortage of cams for LS1 camaros for a little while in 1998, and that they put corvette cams in them. Assuming this is true, how would one find out if they had the 'Vette cam or not?

There is nothing too desirable about the corvette cam. It actually has a wider lobe separation angle than the f-body cam, because GM figured that its affluent corvette buyers would not tolerate the lower idle quality.
If you are looking for an HP advantage over other stock cars, the only vette cam that would do you any good is one of the LS6 cams from 2001 - 2004.Hammer - hammertime.us

I know the stock C5 vette cams wouldn't give any more power. I'm just curious because my car is a 1998 and I heard they came from the factory with corvette cams for a little while due to the shortage of cams for the camaro. It's mainly just to satisfy my curiosity

I don't believe you could tell without actually removing the cam from the engine. As far as I know they make no indication on the block as to what cam they used inside of it.

I never heard this.
I would assume the cam is the same in any 1998 LS1, be it Corvette, Camaro, or Firebird.2008 Trailblazer SS

Also, as hammertime said, there is a difference in the Corvette cam, in that it has a different LSA to minimize any shimmy the car has at idle

1998-2000 Trans Am = 202/210 496/496 116
1997-1999 Corvette = 207/199 479/472 117
I have also seen 199/209 498/497 119 as the stock F-Body cam from 98-00.
Not really sure how accurate those numbers are.
