SLP cold air setup......
Well I got done with the cutting and installing, but I noticed that there are 4 pieces to seal up the air. the 3 foam pieces I placed where they belong, the long one on the rear, and the two small pieces on the sides, but where does the long rubber piece go?? With the sticky tape attached to the bottom?? Any help is appreciated....pics are too. thanks.

If its the piece I'm thinking of it goes where the factory air intake is.

I just put the slp cold air kit on, and in the slp instructions it tells you not to use that rubber piece if you have a ram air hood.

If you have the ram air lower box then I would find a rubber strip that would seal the intake otherwise the cold air kit would be useless.... Just my opinion

how would it be useless? please explain... no matter how you look at it, it will still be getting the "cold air" effect if you installed the kit..

I don't have any real proof and by no means am I the best person to explain it. The way I thought about it is the air really cant be that much cooler at the ground than where it is at the hood. Even if there is a difference then you would want all the air coming from under the car and not from both a hot and cold source.

Well, does it pull harder??

when I installed it I bought the whole kit (lid, bellow, and the cai). I thought it pulled harder but it could have been all in my head. Its not going to be a huge difference in feel over stock.

well according to SLP it's good for 20-25 hp over stock. I haven't really felt a diff, but then again I'm always just cruising around. I think your right tho, 2 airways will create a bit of a problem when your engine is asking for it. I think blocking it off, and getting air from the cai is better IMO. If your depending on your hood, according to experts you gotta go a certain speed for it to even kick in. RAM AIR is only on the trans ams, seeing as how the cuts are in front of the hood. I blocked it off, and it feels pretty good when I slam on it. When I didn't have it blocked off, it didn't. So I'm gonna stick with the seal that goes in front of the airbox.

I can't speak for the SLP CAI, but I got the SSRA and it definately makes more power on the highway.
Sealing the box as much as you can will force all the air coming in from the bottom into the filter and not out that slit in front of it.

Sunset Orange Metalic- 2001 Camaro SS
at this
SLP claims a lot of things
I have the cold air and i notice it, but its not 20-25 hp
According to SLP, with their headers "Gains of up to 41 horsepower and 58 lb.-ft. of torque are possible"
Word of advice,do not buy anything from SLP besides the Lid, CAI, or a select few other parts. SLP items are costly and SLP claims unreasonable hp gains for them (and their headers are garbage).
For example

Do a search on it

Just saw it and thought i'd point it out, kinda hard to tell, but the slp lids are notorious for fitment problems. Some (like my old one) fit really nice, but others fit horrible. My old one belonged to a friend of mine and it fit bad on his 2000, but it fit perfect on my 98.
