Why is it called a "shot"

i really have no nitrous experience at all and after riding in my buddys Z with a 100 shot i was curious to know why its called a "shot"

^^^True, plus saying "i've got a 100 load on it," or "I just sprayed my 100 load on you" would just sound nasty.
