Killed by tow truck driver-with pics
I live in an apt complex with designated resident and visitor parking. Cars without stickers are regularly towed away at night. (they got Spikito's car Saturday while he was over here partyin..) So they were out last night, and while maneuvering around a HUGE, barely occupied parking lot did $900 worth of damage to my car... I would have never known what happened if 2 neighbors hadn't witnessed it and come to tell me. I walk out to find them loading a truck a couple spaces down from me and the partner of the guy who actually hit it had the audacity to play dumb like he didn't know what i was talking about and point his flashlight at the car and ask if 'the other side doesn't look like that?'. ass hat. So I've been up since 7:30 getting estimates and waiting to hear back from the tow company... I got the driver's number last night--he wanted the opportunity to pay for the damage rather than involve his employer-and I agreed. I called him this morning and he started talking about calling his personal insurer and claiming he hit me with his personal vehicle blah blah insurance fraud blah and so I had to decline and get the company involved. He was kind enough to call me later to let me know he was fired. Obviously wasn't his first incident. I was fair right? Gave him a chance--if it were me i would have loaned it or something to keep my job...
Now LS1 is giving me the finger when i try to start new treads in AAG...where this was going to be.Last edited by 02WS6dream; 07-08-2009 at 10:56 AM.

Pics:
Doesn't look all that bad in the pics I know.. just imagine what your frustration would be like in this scenario though.. bumper cover is scratched from one side to the other. both exhaust tips are scraped up on top, and right exhaust is free from hangers in addition to the obvious damage to the bottom right of the bumper cover.

Long story...expained it several times on here. nutshell--had ws6 3 years--got it with 40000 miles and 3 years old. had been rode hard and put away wet. thought i could fix everything and keep it forever. i was wrong. at 90000 miles and a second auto tranny failure I decided I needed something more reliable as a DD for now. I will have another F or Y body once I can afford to have a DD and a toy. Mustang is a nice blend of reliable (warrantied
) performance and comfort.

I spent an average of $2000/yr (thats $166 month) in repairs excluding regular maintenance. I know its a uniquely poor experience. not to mention missed many a class... Loved that damn thing though!!

2016 Camaro SS - Summit- 2001 Trans Am WS6 - NBM
That sucks man, but it looks like everything will work out. Just keep in contact with your witnesses, just in case....
On a side note, Mustangs are a respectable car, minus the gas mileage. Just glad you didn't sell the WS.6 for a stupid ass Mitsubishi or something.j/k Tiger
I digress.

you did the right thing.i'd be seriously pissed that someone would damage your car, then try to play it off, after they did not try to find you and tell you about the"accident" and to top it off try to jerk you around about getting it fixed with a attempted insurance fraud.

Update: company seems like they are going to take care of this without hassle. Aside from sending me to the cheapest ppl they can find for estimates....I'm going to tell them tomorrowo that Ford will be fixing it. Reasonable estimate and will be covered under warranty when I move 1000 miles away in 10 days. Can't be coming back here to deal with someone's shotty work. My apartment complex went out already today and un-reserved all the open parking spaces that cars were getting towed from. Literally there are like 10 spaces for every person back here. No need for 'reserved' or towing visitors.

Wow dude. Sorry that happened. I say F that guy. He was trying to be shady and say he didn't do that to your car. He needed an asswhooping, but sounds like you took care of it very civil. Hope you get that Moostang back in tip top shape.

Millienum Yellow- 2003 Corvette Z06
Did the right thing, had you allowed him to try and do it his way you would have been jerked around and or the claim would have been denied once his personal insurance company figured out he waas trying to scam them. Sucks for him but maybe he needs to seek another profession...

thanks guys! Just tried to call her (owner)...hasn't made it to the office yet..at 10 am... Told me yesterday she wants "some dude" to look at it. Can't find any info other than an address for "some dude's painting" online (replaced his name--don't want to call out some guy I know nothing about online). There is no way this guy is touching my car. Hell, the shop I got the second estimate from isn't touching the car. I did that figuring it was the right thing to do to validate the estimate I got from the shop I prefer (happens to be Ford) so she could be confident I was not trying to take advantage of the situation. estimates are within $100 Ford-$927 Other-$836. And the guy at 'other' didn't know what I was talking about when I mentioned that the cali special bumper is different than the GT bumper...so I'm not confident he has the correct price on his estimate-it's half what the part is on Ford's estimate.. I'm anxious to get it in the shop and fixed. I see no reason for others to bid on it. I know where it needs to be fixed and the price has been validated by the shop SHE requested and went on to speak about how much she uses and trusts.

if it were me,i would have it repaired at the body shop of my choosing, period.especially since you have a cs.it would look awful to get your car back with a standard gt bumper on it!not to mention the hassle.my wife's ws6 got hit back in 04 when we moved to panama city,fl,well she had progressive insurance at the time so we took it by their office and they insisted we take the car to a particular body shop, bad idea!we got the car back and it had 1 brand new taillight and one that was used, looked like it had been sitting in a junkyard for 20 years, dingy and faded.we had to argue with progressive and the body shop for 2 days before they would put a brand new light on there to match the other side.car insurance companies are the biggest rip off in the world,so make sure you get your car done right and don't back down.they will try to take advantage of you! good luck.

thanks! just got fed up trying to deal with her. apparently she and her 'other' body shop do lots of towing/repair business back and forth--insisted they do the work--guess there was going to be some trade-out action to pay off the bill... I tried to explain why I prefer (and insist) that Ford do the work...she wouldn't listen. She got argumentative and then started accusing me of trying to run up the estimate at her shop--completely rearranged what i had said. I had simply mentioned the thing about the difference in bumpers and the disparity in price between Ford's bumper and their's. also their part said refurb on it and i was curious as to what exactly i would be getting. He rewrote the estimate with new Ford bumper and that was it. She says i asked him to get the estimate 'closer to $1000, I already have one for $900" I don't care how little it costs, I just want it fixed right. So, I got off the phone with her and filed it with my insurance agent. She can fight with them over it now. good luck... 2 witnesses, pictures, and a fired truck driver (and have his cell number).

also..the estimate has risen about $600...the exhaust is damaged whereas we thought at first it was only loose and needed to be re-hung. The tailpipes are all scratched up (deep). They are welded to the mufflers and sold as a unit... that's sad and rediculous, but true. Expensive fix for gouged tailpipes, but I think ya'll will understand that I expect it in the condition I kept it in before it was hit.
