I messed with a pretty blue C6 Z06 2 summers ago and from a 50mph roll we were dead even. He gave me the thumbs up. And the GT500's I've seen at capital run from 13's to high 11's around 116mph, last night. I'm 114 close to 115, I think I'd get one on the highway, always take it to a Mustang if given the chance.

You run 114-115 mph in the 1/4, but were dead even with a 125+ mph in the 1/4 C6 Z06......from a roll?
Bueller?

Think what you want, at the speed we stopped we were even. I don't try to run 3 digits on the public roads.

I'm only "thinking" what you told me. Do you agree that that a 2006 Z06 is capable of 125+ mph in the 1/4 mile in bone stock trim? Did you not say that you typically run ~115 mph in the 1/4? Does not 125 - 115 = 10 mph difference? Does that not show a HUGE disparity in performance - especially once a standing launch is taken out of the equation? Were you not at least trying to IMPLY that your car is capable of "hanging" with a C6 Z06?
I'd suggest the Z06 you "raced" was playing with you (and likely laughing his ass off at the same time), and gave you a "thumbs up" to make you feel good. Or you fabricated the story. Either way, you're no match at all for a C6 Z06 (and probably not a stock C5 Z06 either). That's not a put down....just a simple fact.

It might be possible the C6 Z was racing you in 5th gear. I had a 460 wrhp 03 cobra and was playing with a new Z on the highway. Trust me they are very light, aerodynamic, and powerful. The highway is there friend. I was lucky that the old man really didnt know how to drive his car. He was shifting too early and starting out in too high gear, or he was toying with me, one of the two. I still could not pull and was lucky to keep up.

As far as the GT 500's are concerned, I am unimpressed. I think they are too heavy. they are 500 horsepower, but a mid to high 12 sec car? There is something wrong there. Maybe its the gearing? My old termi beat up on a coulple of them in its day. I also think they are overpriced just because they say SHELBY.
A full bolt ons LS1 f-body (tuned, full exhaust, etc.) will beat a GT 500. Drivers being equal. I think a stock 03/04 Cobra would beat them to. Just my opinion, after seeing a couple of them run.
Now the not as heavy, more powerful, GT 500KR is a differant story.

Couple of quick things....stock to stock, the GT500 is a few tenths quicker than a 03/04 Cobra. Not 110 HP quicker....but quicker.
The GT500KR is only 20 lbs lighter than the base GT500 (3900 vs 3920). Source: Motortrend.

i think it's edmunds that got a gt500 to do 12.8 @ 114? mph---- pretty sad for 500+hp
mind you i bet there were severe traction issues... and edmunds has the worlds worst drivers.

I had heard 40 pounds lighter, but Ill take your word for it, I have not done much research on the matter. The truth is, I just dont really like the 2005 and newer mustangs that much. The new model is a little better, but not much. They just touched it up a little for 2010.
(I dont like the new Camaro either, maybe it will grow on me.)
20 or 40 pounds lighter, may not make that big of a deal, but the 40 horsepower gain definatly helps. Either way, the KR is faster and lighter, but Im still not diggin it. I can respect it because it runs 11's.
As far as a stock termi vs a stock gt 500. I believe that in a qaurter mile, you are probally 1-2 tenths differance. But i have read about MMFF getting a termi to 12.4 and a GT 500 to a 12.2 just by adjusting tire pressure. I have also read about both cars getting low 13's with professional drivers.
Now I know you dont like internet racers, or magazine racers for that matter, but my experiance with seeing both cars in action is that it would be a great race.

Look at post #20 ; there is a link where Edmunds dynoe'd the new 2010 GT500 on 91 octane gas and it put something like 511 ponies to the wheels. They claim that should be good for 570 to the crank. And MotorTrend tested the car and this is from the website:
Get it right and Ford says you'll see 60 mph in 4.3 sec and hit the quarter in 12.3 at 118 mph. We tested the GT500 twice and weather conspired against us both times. In Dearborn, Michigan, 43-degree temps compromised launch grip, and in Sonoma, California, a flag-straightening headwind blew down our times (the geography at Infineon dragway precludes two-way average running). Our best run scrambled to 60 in 4.7 sec and through the quarter mile in 12.7 at 118.1 mph. That trap speed is dead-on the KR's and lends credence to Ford's performance claims. On warm California tarmac, the GT500 generated 0.96g lateral grip and stopped in 109 ft from 60 mph and in 300 from 100 mph. In Michigan, we circled the figure eight in 25.1 sec at 0.81 g.

Yeah the shelby gt500s 1/4 mile times are less than impressive for a car making that much power. I guess they're heavy and not very areodynamic but I would still think a low 12 or high 11 w/ that kind of power and torque.

One would think that because of the 100 horsepower advantage, but I think a (2005-2007) c6 is is about even in qaurter mile and faster to 60 mph than the 500 horse GT 500s. A c5 Z wil probally beat it in the qaurter as well. C5 Z's are a little faster than the C6's, except for top speed.
Remember the GT 500 is around 800 pounds heavier than the C6 vettes. I have always heard than every 100 pounds can give or take 10 horsepower. So if you had a 200 pound mother in law in your car, your gonna run like your 20 horsewpower less.

The best time i have seen on stock c5 z06 was a 11.91 at 118mph. Some people claim to have trapped 120mph with bone stock c5 z06s. The fastest i have heard of a gt500 stock was a 12.2 @ 116mph. So i think these two with good drivers would be a good race, with the edge to the c5 z06.
