You know the origin of this. Me and some old hot rodders were drinking coffee and shootin' the shit. We started talking about wrapping headers and tricking carbs/float bowels etc. when old Ray started talking about mixing 2stroke oil back in the early 60's. Well one thing led to another and I started researching today's 2stroke offerings. It all made sense to me so a bunch of us started with the ash less TC W-3 stuff as it made the most sense from a residue perspective. We screwed around with the ratio forever until we hit on the 1oz to 5 gallon mix. Within the first week all of us realized gains/smoothness etc. We tested the crap out of it in a range of cars. All saw gains. The rest is history.
Bottom line is it is cheap. It is good for your motor. You realize positive gains from it.

Found 2/3's of a gallon of Super Tech in the garden shed.
Everything has two stroke oil in it now.

The only one I could find is Valvoline Multi-Purpose 2 cycle Engine Oil TC-W3, I assume that is still ok?

I have about 100 miles on the 2 stroke oil and I noticed today I don't have hardly any exhaust smell. I have long tubes and an ORY, no cats and used to be able to smell my exhaust outside the car now I don't. The smell went away with the 2 stroke oil. What the H?

Yeah....the TC-W3 is ashless and has the add pack we need. Lots of brands...but your after TC-W3 and your good to go.

Myself and others noticed the same thing. I also have LT's/ gutted cats. Pretty simple really what is going on. Your ring packs/top end is being cleaned and your compression and cylinder efficiency is getting better. IE....your burning your fuel more efficiently....less unburnt fuel=less "smell".

Hi sarge, i was reading this thread start to end and wanted to thank you for all the info you provided! I needed to drive my Z28 from AZ to NY(ruffly 2500 miles) and decided this will be a great time to start "Sarges TC-W3 2 Cycle oil in gas program".
Now i want to report my feedback on the results after 9 refuels with the 2 cycle oil in the tank (1oz-5gal ratio):
1. I'm amazed on how smooth the engine is running now. before i could see and feel the tecometer needle jumping between 1100-1200 rpm while idling, now the needle is dead on 1000 rpm and the engine is very smooth and spooky quiet for an LS1.
2. On cold starts the engine will start instantly, before i would experience 2-3 seconds delay on some cold starts.
3. In general the car feel very strong with sharp throttle respond.
4. I'm sure the MPG got better as it seems that this trip cost me ruffly 60 dollars less in gas expanse compare to a same trip i did 6 months ago driving from NY to AZ. I have no way to valided this as i didn't kept a record of # to show this.
I guess now i need to maintain the positive results by keeping the correct ratio of 2 cycle oil in the tank

Thanks for educating us on this and many other gearhead subjects, that's what make this forum the best tool in my garage

Your realizing the benefits of efficiencies. Adding the 2stroke TC-W3 to your gas is very inexpensive and easy and the benefits far outweighs any "cost or efforts" of following the "program"....

My first post, I've read through the thread and I have been using 2 stroke in my lawnmower (Honda 4 stroke) with great results, but my question is that I have a large stash of Stihl Ultra 2 stroke oil, which is a 100% ester type and is supposed to be non ash and non carbon forming. Do you all think it would be OK to use this ( I do not beleive it is TCW-3 . I just wanted to use up what I have first before buying a TCW-3 marine oil.) Thanks for this great information again.

Hey man...welcome to the forum.
Short answer is I am dead sure on the TC-W3 and not sure on the Stihl Oil

. The TC-W3 has the add packs needed for carbon/ring cleaning we are after not found in other 2stroke oils. Seriously the TC-W3 oil is dirt cheap anyway. But for some interesting reading on TC-W3 http://www.nmma.org/certification/programs/oils/

So TC-W3 is better than Lucas ?

Short answer is absolutely. Lucas is solvents and really doesn't have much in the way of lubrication qualities as the TCW3 2 stroke cleans and lubricates. Also the TCW3 is excellent at cleaning the ring packs.

ims ure i could find this by reading thorugh some of the posts, but are you using this on every fillup forever? Or every other tank? Ive been doing this for about 5 tanks and my gas mileage and idle has been much better ! (id say about 50 more miles out of a tank)
