The red Dobie I had was one dog I'll never forget. He was smart, loyal, protective and a great all around member of the family. Great choice! If I wasn't afraid of constantly comparing another one to him I would get another.

No two dogs are the same, When I had my dobbie, my wife was carring our first son, he wouldn't leave her side, when our son was born, he transfer to our son. Very loyal and protective. He would not let anyone near him unless we said it was ok.
Can wait till I can get another one....He passed away a few yrs ago...

Most dogs are protective of their family. They know when something ain't right. Size don't even matter. Even the ankle biters.
Never cared too much for Dobermans myself. Their was one at petsmart taking classes when my dog was a pup. The doberman snapped at him when the lady was not paying attention.
I'm sure it's bs but I hear the way a doberman's head somehow causes them to go nuts later in life. I've heard that about pits as well... mY dogs head is so dam big I'm sure he's got room to spare.
