I don't think that sub has enough power to fill that whole room. How much power does your receiver put out?
The rear are important for surround sound. The center is the most important speaker when watching movies. Most of the sound comes from it.
Before I upgraded my speakers, I could raise the volume up to about where it was loud. But not loud that you couldn't talk.
With the Polks, its deafing but clear as a bell.My system will shake all the windows....... at my neighbors house.
It all depends what you are trying to do. I want to be totally immersed in the movie I am watching.
Watching a horror movie in 7.1 is nuts.
Any decent surround sound is better than no surround sound.
I installed a Home Theater in a Box in my friends Apartment. It sounded good for what it was. You couldn't get it really loud, but you had all the effects of 5.1

Save your $$$ and get the best sub u can. Subs add soooo much impact to HT, but they ain't cheap.

Thats my sub, but I'd LOVE to upgrade to an HSU 3.3. My sub fills up my room quite nicely and has no probs knockin shit off my wall, if I choose too, haha. HSU's are just in a whole nother league, from what i've been told.
I have a Harman Kardon 254 reciever and AV123 ELT system. Reciever is new but someday I'll upgrade the speakers to prolly a Paradigm or Aperion system. I just need to win the lotto.
