whats a good cam
wanted to know what would be the best cam for a stock motor .I want to make decent power maybe about 380 horsepower nothing crazy but with only cam and the usual valve springs etc.And that is to the wheels .Also what would a shop charge for a cam installation , thank you.

I would go for a 224/230 kinda thing
labor is gonna be expensive. most performance shops are around $90/ hour. remember, you should shim th oil pump, get pushrods, and a timing chain set at the same time.

224 or 228 cams work fantastic with LS1s. No one on here is really going to be able to accurately answer what a shop will charge you for the install, your best bet there is to call some local shops and ask for an estimate on the install.

TR224 is awesome cam with great street manners. It should put you where your goals are. Also I have heard good things about TSP228r. I probably wouldn't go anything over the 230s unless you want to sacrifice drivability and under the curve hp.

MS3. 237/242 .603"/.609" 112LSA get the 113LSA if you want it to be more streetable. I DD my 2000 M6 with that cam and its not a problem with a good tune and given you can drive a manual.
I put down 390rwhp with an intake and LT headers and that cam.
yes i definately lost power down low and it doesnt like 6th under 65mph but man u cant beat the looks you get a stoplights with that thing sittin there idling, and once you get it spooled towards 3k its worth every penny.
oh and i got 20mpg driving about 150 miles right after the tune. and a good 45 minutes of that was stop and go friday afternoon St. Louis traffic... as well as a few hammer downs... like 8 or 10 times on the way home at the corners...Last edited by Cookie; 04-06-2009 at 09:25 PM.

my post was partly intended to prove a point. Just know what works and then each to his own. I wanted an aggressive idle and wasnt worried about driveability as much. some people just want some more kick where a 224/224 would work nicely.
I wont get ls1techy on you because thats part of the reason why I left there. no matter how much you search you will NEVER find a post that says "this is the best LS1 cam". Just know what your options are, hit up the youtube and listen to what they sound like, search specific cams on here and youtube for dyno results etc. That will give you the best idea of what will fit to what you want.
