Pewter- '00 TransAm WS/6
Orion,
I'm going on the thought that it's a blocked/crushed fuel line, because he had said at one point that he pushed the schrader valve on the fuel rail, and nothing came out. If everything is operating correctly, it should have squirted fuel. He could have gas on the plugs, if it's not making enough pressure, and just kind of squirting gas up at a lot pressure, and it's just dribbling into the heads, instead of spraying properly.
I do agree, a proper fuel pressure gauge is mandatory for diagnosing the fuel system, but his simple test shows that there's no pressure, unless he didn't push the valve right. Any decent parts store should have the tester, but he needs to be sure it's for fuel injected vehicles, so it will operate in the correct pressure range. The one you show looks perfect.
For right now, he can go with simple brute force tests to identify the problem area, if it's actually a crushed or blocked line. Possibly, blowing back some air will help resolve the problem, but I kind of doubt it unless his pickup and filter were already hosed.

You guys are great. For sure, I push the pin down in the schrader valve and no gas or pressure come out. The fuel is with no doubt not making it there. I will try to get the correct gauge today while I am out. The filter is brand new, just put on two days ago. Even after priming the pump four to five times, nothing at the schrader valve. But when I went to take of the new filter, the pressure and gas blinded me. It was a lot! A will let you guys know soon. Thank you for all the help so far.

I recently changed a fuel filter on mine. I started it up long enough to move it forward to change the filter and shut it off. When I tried to depressurize the fuel system through the schrader valve I had no pressure either. Should you have pressure there after shutting the car off? I had no excessive pressure build-up at the filter, it just leaked out the gas that was in the filter. Mine runs fine either way. I am just not sure you will have pressure there without the pump running. Mine is a stock fuel system with stock rails. I am just trying to pointout the fact that you may not have any pressure there at the valve. Hope you find the problem, and its a cheap fix!

Oh,crap- what about leaky injectors?Just thought of this-could explain wet plugs, gas smell,no pressure at schrader?

I'm suspicious about filling up the night before. If your schrader valve will eject fuel in an 8 to 10 inch mist after you let the system charge you have plenty of pressure for the car to start. Starting I would think only takes 1/4 - 1/5 of the fuel delivery WOT would.
If I was a betting man...I'd say you got trash gas. When you filled up it churned and mixed with the gas you had. Additionally the car was warmed up when you drove it the night before (bad gas burns better in a warm car.) Then it sat that night and the heavier gas settled to the bottom and that is the gas you are sucking up now.
Go back to your filter and get you some gas to put in a jar or glass...the taller the glass you can fill the better. Let it set 1 to 4 hours. If you can see separation you have bad gas!
You can also try pulling the MAF open the TB and spray "some carb cleaner" into the Intake...note "some"...start small. Then put the MAF back on and see if it will crank over. If you get it cranked up and it will run rough and get slightly better as it warms up...you have bad gas!

I cant thank you guys enough. I will try all the above soon. I returned the wrong gauge and can not find the correct one. I may have to order it. I will probably check the gas tomorrow. Keep trying and I will update.

Ok, so the two fuel lines that run up to the fuel rail. The one that has the schrader valve on it is disconected. I need to know how to disconect the one that goes to the rail. It has a metal round device that the hose goes into. Can anyone tell me how to disconect it. I an in the process of disconecting all the fuel lines to run air thru them to check for blockages. Thanks.

You need to buy a set of GM fuel line disconnects.

They usually look like this. They are 9 bucks for a giant set at autozone.

you can also do it with a couple of small screwdrivers. You have to push in on the fitting and run the screwdrivers in to depress the tangs.

I just recently had this same problem with my 00 TA. I was going crazy trying to figure it out. I cleaned my throttle body, changed the fuel filter, and checked that all lines were in good condition. Still would not start - oh and by the way, no fuel pressure at the valve. I pulled the connection off of my aftermarket lid thinking it may be a sensor and it started right up. I disconnected the battery - plugged it back in - connected the battery and have not had a problem since. So if you have aftermarket intake try this approach.

Got the quick disconnect today. That bitch dosent work worth a shit! I wish I could find the ones in the previous pictures, but the only one they had was a metal long one. Either way, still cant get the one fuel line disconected. There is just no f-ing room under the hood. What connection off your lid are you talking about 00 WS6? The connection for the sensor? I have the Volant intake. The sensor sticks out inside the Volant box next to the filters. I will try that tomorrow. I already did the battery thing last week...did not work. I just want to run some air through my lines but dont want to push anything into the rail or injectors. I have everything disconected down by the tank, just cant get that one line disconected going into the rail. I will try again tomorrow! Any tips?

see the pictures of those disconnect tools? That shaft side slides up into the fitting and depresses a couple of tangs in there so that the line will release. You can do the same thing with a couple of screwdrivers. Just push in on the line and slide a couple of small screwdrivers in there to depress the tangs and then pull the line out.

If the metal one just won't work. I have had success cutting up plastic from Coffee Cans, Vitamin Bottles, or other Polyethylene. Softer plastic, the recycle triangle will often have HDPE, PE, or LDPE denoted.
But I have coiled this around the tubing (cutting to the approximate circumference) and jammed it up into the fittings.
If you are getting the metal one up in there, make sure you are working the connection together and apart. That action often helps work the tool and those tangs into position. (Good news...once you get it once you are a pro.)Last edited by BowTied; 01-09-2009 at 04:37 PM.

Here is the deal. The one fuel line coming from the top of the tank that turns from a rubber hose, to a connector, to a metal fuel line, all the way up to the schrader valve is not getting any fuel. I disconnected it right by the tank and nothing comes out, even when I turn the car on and the pump primes, still nothing. I am pretty sure that line is supposed to have fuel and pressure in it. It get neither! I am guessing I am going to have to cut open my trunk to find out unless anyone has heard of this or knows what is going on.
