If he can launch that WRX from a dig, he is going to hole shot your 3.8L a couple cars which you will never make back up by 100mph. From a roll I think he'll still get you, but not as badly. WRXs are really not that impressive. They're generally 14 second cars and into the 13s with modifications, but the only reasons they are that quick is because of the AWD launch.
I had a buddy with a 2002 WRX Wagon. He had full bolt ons and an ECU flash at 14psi of boost. The car went 13.4@101. Generally a stock WRX will run in the mid 14s at 94-97mph trap.

If it's a WRX (assuming it's a relatively newer model), the race still shouldn't be really close -- with the edge going to the WRX. If it's just a base Impreza you should have a slight edge at winning that one.
Since you stated earlier that it's definitely NOT an STI, we won't need to comment how that race would end.
At the end of the day, I'd go for it and run him. Hopefully you'll gain an advantage as a more skilled driver and that should make for a good race. Let us know how it goes.

thanks buddy...ill remember that when im wavin bye to you once we launch, haha. BTW i work at subaru so I'm used to driving the new sti and wrx 5/6 spd and have driven other various standard transmissions including a white 02 wrx fully modded to run with sti's for a month or so, so i do know how drive a standard. good luck to you though. It should be interesting!

WRX's really aren't fast at all, my friend has one of the newer ones with the 2.5 turbo and its still slow. We also put the Cobb Stage 2 tuner on it, he said he noticed a huge difference, I honestly didn't notice much of anything.
Problem is you're driving a 3.8 Camaro, so unless your car is a 5 speed, I don't really see you beating him at all. If you have a 5 speed it might be close, because you would both be putting down about the same HP at the wheels, but he's still got the gearing and weight advantage.
