So what can I claim on my taxes?
Tax season is coming soon...
Anyways my brother mentioned the other day you could put your college books on your taxes as a expense? Is this true?
Heck if that is the case can I claim the gas I drive to school lol?
Any other tax breaks many people forget/skip tips anyone can give?

I don't think so..
I've never claimed school books as an expense...I think that only works for jobs.
i.e. my little summer salesman job I had let me write EVERYTHING off. Provided I can document all the reciepts, I can literally write off every gallon of gas, article of clothing, car repair, plane ticket, and ounce of food I bought between my start and release dates.
Comes out to around $3 grand.

You can claim your books for college...just the same as you can claim your college tuition. I've done it several years in the past.

Generally, to claim deductions, you have to itemize. Only if you have more deductions than
the standard deduction, does it do you good. If you don't have mortgage interest to claim,
it's hard to get over the standard deduction.
