I really don't think that anything can compare to the Superbird. That basically was a NASCAR (with 426 hemi) that you could buy from the dealer. Incredible!

Well, seeing how the original post started with "which was the greatest", I'd say that rules out any current production car. Don't get me wrong, the Z06 is to die for!
The terms muscle car and fuel injection, just don't seem to go together. I'd rule out 4th gens, 5.0's and even GNX's because they are all modern cars. And true muscle cars are mid-sized cars that the oem's stuffed more power into. The Camaro?Mustang/Trans Am's were all smaller cars.
So....with all that said, the best muscle car would have to be the best oem switch from mundane sedan to street freak terror.

They were more worried about getting traction than the guy in the next lane.
So if the Corvette doesn't belong in a discussion about the "Greatest muscle car ever", then you better write to the guys who produce that show because according to you, they must be out of their everlovin' minds featuring a car like the Corvette.
the one shown here is not the episode I watched but you get the idea...
Or you could buy this History Channel video on muscle cars on eBay today... which features the Firebird, Mustang, CORVETTE, and others...
Books have been written on the subject too, so you better get writing...
Oh and check out the website www.musclecarsnational.com, they've got a whole gallery devoted to Corvette members, here is just one:

So I didn't start any shit, Billy. YOU DID. I'm just supporting my opinion.

OHH great. Now I have to be on billys side. There is no debate that Vettes and Shelbys are great and fst cars. I still think they are sports cars. Even though . This is a what you think thread so no one is wrong.

Muscle Car
Muscle car is a term for high-performance automobiles, principally referring to American models produced between 1964 to 1971. During the period these vehicles were interchangeably (and more commonly) described as supercars.
The term muscle car generally describes a mid-size car with a large, powerful engine (typically, although not universally, a V8 engine) and special trim, intended for maximum acceleration on the street or in drag racing competition. It is distinguished from sports cars, which were customarily considered smaller, two-seat cars, or GTs, two-seat or 2+2 cars intended for high-speed touring and possibly road racing. High-performance full-size or compact cars are arguably excluded from this category, as are the breed of compact sports coupes inspired by the Ford Mustang and typically known as pony cars, although few would dispute a big-block pony car's credentials as a muscle car.
Sports Car
A sports car is a type of automobile designed for sporting performance.
While opinions differ as to the exact definition, most sports cars have two seats and two doors, and are designed to provide excellent acceleration, top speed, and good looks.
When it comes to actual Sports car racing and the needs for braking, maneuverability, low weight, reliability etc., the philosophies differ. While some brands like Porsche always have built cars that are raced, others like Lamborghini never were intended nor suitable for competitions. Most current so-called sports cars have to be considered luxury cars, with many options and high weight, as few customers are willing to sacrifice comfort or noise deafening.
Great emphasis is often placed on handling—the ability of the driver to remain in control of the car under challenging conditions such as when the car's tires begin to lose their grip on corners.
A car may be sporting without being a sports car. Performance modifications of regular cars, such as muscle cars, hot hatches and the like do not generally fall in the pure sports car territory.
