How does the solenoid on the drivers side under the cowl come off? I can't see it well enough to figure out how to remove it. Everything else looks fairly easy to remove, is there a vacuum line to the solenoid that needs to be plugged?

We have no emissions test in this state. That is not a concern. I was planning to delete the cats as soon as they act up. I can't even find this AIR pump someone said it was under the driver side headlight in a trap like device but I see absolutely nothing under there. I'm thinking I'll just yank all of this out if I can find it. I'd like to just print out a guide and give it to mechanic if I don't need it. Any suggestions? The install university guide seems to be a bit off base for what I need to do. It's a Ford mechanic so I will need to get it right or I'll have to take it to a Chevy guy who will charge me hundreds of dollars. The Ford guy is family. :\

hear you go man, i was in the same boat as you till i was taken out a slight dent and ran into it lol. Its the block thing in the middle of the pic, it has a hose coming from the top of the fender turns into a 90 and goes into it. i think it had another hose but i had already pulled it by the time of the pic.
this pic is with out the inner splash fender(plastic) thing whatever it is. but you can see an opening behind the orange light that is the trap like device, a door lol.
hope that helps

KM02SS - the solenoid bracket may have a 15mm bolt at the back of the engine. Give it a reach around and you'll see. Just loosen the bolt and the bracket will come out... it slips onto the bolt. It's bear to get a wrench on that bolt, but it can be done.

666ws6, thanks for the info. Is that a vacuum line running to the top of the solenoid?

I wasn't sure what that line ran too. It's some solenoid on top of the driver's side valve cover. Instead of figuring it out, I just plugged it. The car ran fine. Still not sure what that is though.

PCV is pass side at the front by the TB. This is half way back on the driver's side, top of the valve cover. I'll have to look more this weekend. It gets connected to the unit on the far RH side of the picture I posted in #18. I'm not even sure what the heck that module was either.
Seems bad to remove things you aren't sure of, but what the heck...Last edited by 666ws6; 11-06-2008 at 05:45 PM.

More air questions
I have done alot of research but I can't seem to find the answers to my question. I want to remove the AIR system because I'm tired of the DAMN ticking it makes.
Question 1: The line that runs from top of the solenoid to the back of the intake, what is it for/where does it go?
Question 2: Can anyone explain why the SES light comes on when the AIR system is removed? What exactly is the PCM monitoring that sets the SES light?
Question 3: Is there away to fool the PCM in to believing the AIR system is still present? I don't have access to a TUNER and can not delete the codes. Is there away (resistor, simulator, or something) that can be done to prevent the SES light? Emissions is not an issue.
Thanks for anyones help in this matter

Here are brief answers to your questions:
1) That is the vacuum line used by the AIR system solenoid--the solenoid operates on vacuum.
2) The PCM controls the operation of the AIR system itself, monitoring each function of the AIR system during its operation by comparing the actual signals received to the range expected. Any signal value outside the expected range throws a DTC and lights the SES light. Removing the AIR system yields a 'zero' value that is obviously outside the expected value range.
3) Yes, but it is much easier to disable the AIR function in the PCM operating system with a tuner or tuning software than to try to simulate the AIR system operation.Last edited by GatorSS; 12-06-2008 at 03:27 AM. Reason: add missing letter

Okay thanks but.
I know the line is vacum to the solenoid but where does it attach to the intake manifold????? I know I can plug the line but I had rather plug it at the intake.
On reprograming the PCM I don't have access to a programmer in this area (nortwest tennessee) and don't know of any one with one and no speed shop around. So can the PCM be tricked to prevent the SES light and if so HOW.
Thanks again for everyones help.

it's supposed to attach to the front of the manifold right behind the Throtel to the passanger's side... that's it... no where else...
you need to do what I did... make friends in the area with F-bodys, one of them is bound to have HP Tunner or something, and just give him $100 for the Points needed to work with your car
