If you strip the block bare you should get some cash for it. You could always look for a used block or engine to get you up and running. Here is a long block in brooklyn for 1800 http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/pts/861713381.html

LS2 on Ebay
There is a yard in Michigan selling an LS2 out of a Trailblazer SS. They want $4,500 for it.

Not a good thing man, am sorry to hear of it. As far as scrap worth, I was getting about 20-25 bucks a pop for scrap aluminum wheels from the scrap yards. If that helps you in anyway.

Recycling rates vary by geographic location ( read density of MethHeads) so yeah, its possible you could get bumpkiss for your block.

I love the LQ4/9's. Its basically a LS2 with a weight penalty. My numbers are higher because of the heads and full exhaust. I have 100% intentions on stroking this motor in the next years. You can find LQ4/9's all over for pretty cheap.
I would NEVER pay that for a used LS2. That is starting to get into the 402/408 money region. O Hell no.
Good luck with your choice man, sucks to see that.

Cool! I have like 10 motors in MYEBAY page lol.
Good stuff, I guess if I go the Lq4/9 route I can just use my ls6 intake and coils on top the my 241 heads...?
I'm guessing the bellhousing would match right up? Same with motor mounts, and me swapping over my oil pan, etc...Seems like they are, for the most part, a swap over? How about pcu/ electronic conversions?
Maybe I should make a thread about LQX swaps...?
