It was released a day early. The record company got pissed b/c it was already leaked so they released it today. I'm gonna get it tomorrow. I have my hopes set very low as not to be disappointed yet again. What do you think so far. I have heard that the production and sound quality on the CD is horrendous.

Hm, didnt hear about that but im listening to it right now and the quality is fine. Im in a Metal band and have done plenty of recording myself so i can attest to it. I mean the quality isnt as good as the Black album up to before St. Anger but its way way better than St. Anger. The riffs are heavy and i think you'll like it a lot.

One thing i have to say is Jame's vocals are no where near what they used to be but eh, ill take it.

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

honestly, i haven't stopped listening to it since i got it. The more i listen, the more i love it. This album really kicks ass. It's super technical, has some really heavy shit too and they get creative with some parts [sometimes too creative] but you can hear a lot of classic Puppets/Justice and even some Kill Em All and Lightening in the riffs. I think its a great pieace of work for a band nearing their 50's

Might i add, the song "All Nightmare Long" is the best on the CD.

    old news....

been listening to the new metallica for over 2 weeks.

its a consistant great CD that has only 3 weaknesses...

    Downfall:
-lars drumming (the better production quality, shows off is poor drumming skills)
-james singing, (sounds like a 50 year old, never ment to be a singer. as to be expected)
-kirk shreds again (sadly its just scales and modes played fast with vibratos at the end to sound cool, no musical vibe/sense, just a wank fest)

    highlights:
-back to the shred / thrash
-rob on bass (the dude is monster on bass, even is old work with infectous grooves and suicidal tendacies is bad ass)
    -bass
    -and more bass
    -music arrangements

A CD that I am extremely impressed with his Head - Save me from myself.
Brian Head Welch, formely of korn, proves he is a great musician.

    Highlights
    -awesome lyric content
    -dynamic singing contrast
    -excellent ambient music
    -dynamic music content
    -excellent guitar riffs

    downfall
-no guitar shred (but its ok, only buckethead or john 5 could write solos to fit Heads music)

    agreed......

    that would a speechless moment.

I am still waiting for another G3 Tour with vai and satriani, but a new version, like a G3 Freak Show:

    Buckethead
    john 5
    steve vai

that would be an insane guitar concert

so true.... or you would be depressed and not feel worthy of guitar playing, after seeing that show. You might try to cut yourself with a guitar string. LOL

I think Jeff loomis should do G3. He does have a solo album about to come out. The tracks have already leaked but I don't want to listen to them until the album comes out. What I have heard is brilliant.

I am about to go get Death Magnetic, you guys are actualy getting me a little excited to hear it. Metallica with bass should be cool. Trujillo is a monster bass player, but I'm sure there will be enough bad drumming and wah pedal to cancel it out

for some reason, i just cant get into jeff loomis guitar playing. No doubt he knows his shit... maybe I just have not given nevermore enough of a chance.

then again, I really like Alexi Laiho playing and alot of people dont.

Go to youtube and listen to some of Loomis' solo stuff. It is awesome. Mixes the shreddy stuff with brutal riff. A lot of people don't like Nevermore due to Warrel Dane's voice, but you don't have to worry about that with the solo stuff. I love Alexi, but his tone is very shrill and brittle. It has gotten better since he went away from that damn boosted EMG HZ and went to a Duncan Blackout though. Still all highs and no bottom end to his sound though.

some higher clean voice I can handle. but the dragonforce "i think i'm an opera metal singer" I dont like

geof tate is one of my favorite singers.
new judas priest was great (i'm not a priest fan either)

I do agree, Alexi sound is very shrill. I believe that is what prevents them from having a huge break through record. The production mixes the guitar tracks and vocal tracks too close.
