What could happen?
Well its a gas question, now i would rather get real answers to this 1, if i use Mid grade gas, will it f up my ls1? I have had a couple of tanks of it, and there isn't any dings or rattles, i would rather use Premium, but sometimes Mr. Wallet doesn't agree. Thanks

at about $1.30 per tank difference your willing to risk your motor, need I say more?

The computer is pretty good about pulling timing when detonation is present before it even becomes audible,,,,so chances are you wouldn't hear it anyway....unless it's severe.
Problem is though,,,,with the computer pulling timing it affects mileage to an extent, performance suffers a bit as well.
If it persists I believe the computer will resort to the lower timing table which in both of my cars is about 6-8 degrees less timing accross the board,,,thats pretty drastic.
For the slight amount of difference in money I personally prefer high test. I've been running 94 octane in most everything for the better part of 30 years. You get used to the price and adjust accordingly.

i think it depends on what youre running, if its a stock motor id think youd be fine. Ive heard that under 11 to 1 compression you dont have to worry about detonation.
My car has never seen premium to my knowledge, but I do get an extra 2-3 mph using midgrade over regular.

but Luos your wastin your money in Co you dont get a true occatin split with that gas bc all the corn base thats in it!! another reason why the highest pump gas you can get there is ony 90 or 91 to where as down here in TX I can get all the way up to 97-99 some places and its a true split in the gas

The LS1 (10.1:1) WILL knock on midgrade at WOT.
If you run anything under premium with 11:1 it will knock as well.
While this might be true....I have personally seen a stock internal LSx ping running our mid-grade. It pulled 10 degrees of timing at WOT from 3400RPM on on a dyno.
In short....spend the extra $1-2 a tank and put premium in it. Worth it!

Around here theres a 15 cent spread in gas grades, today was 3.69 for regular. 3.84 for mid and 3.99 for premium.
I used to run mid, the difference in gas mileage made up for the price increase. The extra distance i covered over the course of a tank was more than i would have gotten with the extra gas.
I know when im running regular the motor doesnt sound happy over 4k rpms, but no serious knocking or anything. I think ill use premium next time and try it out.
