My Borla catback closed up is pretty quiet. Even with long tubes, ory, and a 230/236 cam.

ORY=off road Y pipe... no cats in the Y pipe
on my goat I have a set of summit bullet mufflers right off the headers (using them like resonators) then i run to the mufflers and out the back. they really quieted the car down but still loud when you get on it... and best thing the only $20 each

Im bone stock except for my magnaflow cat back, its really not that much louder than stock, I started my car without the cat back on, and you would be really surprised how quiet it still was, the cats do a good job of killing a lot of sound, im thinking of knocking out my cats just to open it up a bit more, if you want it quieter, try an ory with some high-flow cats in it, the magnaflow is nice and deep, i like it a lot, go to their site for a sound clip www.magnaflow.com
2002 ws6, eibach prokit springs, LCA relocation brackets, UMI adj. panhard bar, C6 Z06 replica wheels, magnaflow catback... for now

trust me the cats really do make a difference in sound...going from stock manifolds to long tube headers make a REALLY big difference. long tube pacsetters, summit bullet mufflers, flow master super 44's and 3" true duals on mine. quiet at and just off idle, then loud more exotic sound at higher rpms

magnaflow is pretty much the quietest you can get. highflow cats will also quiet it down some more

I like my Hooker catback. Its the quietest I've heard. Tips are crappy, but the rest is top notch. You can't even tell my car has a MS4 in it until you crack open the cutout.

^^^ I have a similar set up as you, Long Tubes, ORY, and just a Flowmaster 40 series. I loved it at first, but now after a year or so, the car is just too loud.
I did some research, seems like the tamest setup with LT's and ORY are the Magnaflow and Hooker mufflers. I went ahead and ordered a Hooker catback, just waiting for time/money to get it installed, I'm anxious to hear the difference.

red- 2002 SLP Formula Firehawk
With my unmodified engine w/o headers, I had the Magnaflow muffler patched into my stock SLP Firehawk system. It was better than stock but still pretty tame. I'm agreeing that the Magnaflow may be the way to go in your modified case.
Just replaced it with a new Loudmouth II. Lovin' that!Owner, 2002 SLP Formula Firehawk #738, red, t-tops, 6-sp with Hurst linkage and Lou's Short Stik, Bilstein springs/shocks, SLP y-pipe and LM2 exhaust, BMR strut tower brace.
