^^ He already claimed my valve jr and now my artcore. I guess that I'll just be happy getting my old gear back. Ive already promised him that when he developes his talent enough to justify it I will be glad to buy Les Pauls and Marshall stacks. Sound like I better start saving.

but c'mon, better than getting him into cars!! (wait... what site is this here? ....still, yes.) buy nice gear, let him take good care of it = perfect investment. most of my nicer gear has gone up in value over the years. pretty guitar btw, my les paul special has the same colour.

...and here are the real pics:
Flamed to death, all solid woods. 17'' wide and real heavy. Been resting in it's case for decades.... under a board with a model railroad! The old lady didn't even know it was still there! The guitar is virtually like new and sounds amazing. I'm so excited!!!
.....A little info on Roger: They are considered the best german jazz guitars, comparable to the top end Gibsons (L-5, Super 400).

I don't have one yet. My father is leaving me his Martin in the will. It's a sad conversation to have when your dad asks you if you want something that's his and you realize it's because he's not going to be around for very much longer.
I'm not sure the model number and I don't play, but I've wanted to for a long time. I do know that's an awesome guitar and is pretty expensive.

martins are like fine wine... they sound better and play better with age provided they are taken care of...
do your self a favor and take some lessons... there is no better stress relief than picking up a guitar and playing for a little... and it's great to be able to sit down and take a shit while playing guitar...

first of all: wow, sad occasion for getting an instrument that's supposed to light up your days... sorry.
anyway, spaz's advice is perfect. lessons are mandatory, self teaching, dvds and the like are crap and will frustrate you. and a teacher will be happy to check and restring the guitar for you at first.
and yes, good instruments are getting better with age, if well taken care of. that said, i have guitars more than 70 years old i wouldn't trade for any new ones.

it is well taken care of for sure. It's in an arid state (WY so it's not been dry/moist/dry all the time)
It's kept in a case when it't not getting played. He's a country western kind of guy that's played all his life.
He's also got a strat and a fender acoustic (is it called a starburst?).
He's beginning to sell off his musical equipment because he can't play any more. It's really sad.
Just so everyone knows what happened, he was diagnosed with cancer in Oct. He's done a lot of treatments for it and was making some progress, but after the last round, his dr said it wasn't worth sufferring through treatments and he should go and make himself comfortable.
Please don't let this hijack a great thread so there's no need to talk about it here. I just didn't wanna leave it hanging about when it might be. I'm devastated and we don't live forever. He's an amazing guy and he'll be going home to be with his Father when he passes.
The guitar will be well taken care of. I have an ear for music, or at least I used to. I played a piano for many many years, though it's not like riding a bike for me, I'm not able to play now. I'll pick it up quickly and I'll find a teacher when I'm able to pick it up with out losing it.

really sorry to hear that. but i'm sure your father takes comfort in knowing you'll keep sharing his love for music. and music is a great healer, too.
