just curious when doing a 383 on a newer f/i lt1 is it that much different then doing a 383 on an older carb style engine?

good to know man thanks, the blocks strong enough to support more h/p then the lt1? i know theres some major mods you gotta do to the ls1 bottom end to support major power

If you are going to stroke out an LT1 you will be replacing the rotating assmbly hands down but yea, the LT1 block is cast iron and will hold up to some serious power without hesitation aslong as you have the right internals... forged and balanced. make sure you penny up for good gaskets though since you SHOULD be getting new heads to match for the extra cubes and a good open cam.... but yea, she'll hold youll also need bigger injectors and possibly a higher rated fuel pmup to keep up with everyhing, and its always recommended you get a good coil/ignition to help thigns along.
There are a few places that offer entire stroker kits specifically for the LT1 that offer everything youll need and want to get things done right... some push 500hp and advertise reliability. i'm sure someone on this web could fill in the blanks here... i've been looking into doing it, but i tell you know its a long way off... i bought my headers MONTHS ago and havent gotten them in cause I'm so broke.. if i went and got the kit i wanted it would be atleast another year before i saved up enough for the labor... its going to cost some serious dough.

my teacher will sell me a shortblock 383 for like $800,but if i use my block and heads it'll prolly be even cheaper.not sure on what heads i should go for with something like this, cause i don't know if the intake would bolt to older heads. not the most educated when it comes to 350's.

If you are looking for performance... heads ALONE can cost you $2000
as for an $800 engine block... I have to ask 1 thing: "What's wrong with it?" high milage or something else is wrong.
Look on ebay bro.
You can get a brand new LT1 350 never used, or tested yet... for $1400.
Build on that would be my recommendation.

Yea $800 is less then the install cost for a pair of headers... I'd stay away from that.
For a complete stroker with heads, cam, tune, forged internals... youre looking at probably $5000 after all said and done install and all for basic parts and assuming all goes well... tack on a grand or so for upgrades, double that for premium parts.
you could also go the crate motor route, where the engines already prebuilt, either a refurb/rebuild or a new motor altered from the getgo... they will probably run you alittle more depending on what you are looking for...

no the short block is all brand new pistons and rods and a machined 400 crank. nothing high milage or ghetto. he just hooks up his students thats all
