Yep its a vaccum line. There is a line that comes from the back of the intake over to the firewall on the passenger side and goes into the car right next to the AC lines.
There is a little t connector there that likes to melt/crack. I went thru 3 before I plugged the ends and coated the outside of a new one with some epoxy. going on 50,000+ miles without haveing to replace it again

vaccum fix
You da man, I just got the car ready for spring fresh tune up and oil change and I replaced the tee with a tee from my old blazer an it works great. The old tee has four cracks in it and is now in a hundred pieces because I took care of it office space style.
Thank you

Just "HOW" did you see anything at the rear of the passenger side valve cover? There does not appear to be any room from any direction. I check the t-shapedone over by the computer near the passenger firewall with a part from Oreillys & it did not help.
Could this have anything to do with the check engine light being on? I had a guy with a code reader check it & he said it was a vacuum problem with the emissions but that it should not have any effect on the rest of the car. HELP!!!

What code(s) are you throwing? Is it only blowing out the defrost/floor vents like the original poster? Don't think a bad check valve will throw a code, just redirect the air inside the car.

I don't remember what the code reader showed, but he said it was emission related. He reset it & it came back on a week later & has stayed on. The car has run just fine with it on & mpg is normal. This a/c vent thing just popped up the last few days. No one has been messing around under the hood as some have said on other posting such a leaving something loose during mods. I'll try to check behind the passenger side valve cover this evening when things cool down.

And get the code read again and let us know what it is. Something else could be going on.

The check engine light came on originally several weeks ago & that was when I had it checked with the code reader gadget. After he reset it it came on approximately a week later, but nothing was out of the ordinary except for the light. The car ran exactly the same with the same mpg in city &/or highway driving.
The air conditioner problem just popped up the last couple of days. When you start the car & turn the control from off to max air or regular a/c, it just blows out the bottom/top vents, but not the ones facing the occupants. If you turn the control over to the 3rd position which indicates the floor & occupant facing vents, it comes out correctly. After having the control in this position, you can then turn it back to regular a/c, or max air & the air will then blow out the correct occupant facing vents.
I fiddled with it this evening & followed the vacuum line from the t-connection on the passenger firewall to the rear of the & it is still connected to another one, but I cannot do anything but just "feel" it. What to the shops do, drop the motor or something like that to get back there.
Any change this could be behind the climate control panel inside the car. I lost my manual for the 2002s a while back & have not ever had to remove anything in there yet. How does the panel give up access?
Thanks
