awesome wooden coaster

i've ridden Outlaw at valley fair and Viper and American Eagle at 6 flags great america but wasn't really all that impressed by them...they were kinda boring by and large. Outlaw was okay...interesting hairpin turns but still didn't quite cut it compared to Raging Bull and Batman at 6 flags. at any rate.

went to mount olympus in the wisconsin dells today with the g/f for a day trip. they've got a few coasters there...all wooden. Zues used to be the largest drop in the midwest for a wooden coaster but it got unseated. it's a neat one actually...some decent air time off your butt on the camel backs.

the reason i post isn't Zues though...it's Hades. oh my god...i have never been thrilled on a wooden coaster the way that i as thrilled on Hades.

140 foot 65* first drop...well...it's not technically the first drop. your first drop out of the station is a short one and takes you at a rather decent speed around some hairpin turns before you even get to the main hill. what really sets this one apart is the underground tunnels...probably over 200 feet long under the parks parking lot immediately following the first hill. you double back above ground on the other side of the lot and are plunged back into the tunnel for the return trip. did i mention that there are no lights at all in the tunnel...complete and utter darkness...you have no idea where you are going. it was awesome. i highly recommend Hades at mount olympus in the dells if you like wooden coasters or if you don't but want to be surprised by one. for the fist time i got off of a wooden coaster and had that jell-o leg holy crap thrilled feeling.
