Chalk another one up for the El S Juan
A friend got a 97 cobra about a month ago and I finally egged him into racing.......
He's got Headers/full exhaust, after market intake, 315 sumitomos on the back, all the frame reinforcement stuff, 4:10 gears, after market suspension, short shifter.
Me? Just a ls1, with slp lid & bellows & K&N, exhaust is just dumped behind the axle, pro 5.0 shortthrow, stock 3:42 gears, 275 htrz sumitomos with 20psi (I cheated and dropped my pressure) Oh yea, and I got the driver mod
Raced him 3 times.....first time was from sitting still, he dumped clutch way too high and just spun and I had him by a solid 3 car lengths at 110mph
Second time we raced from a 30mph roll, still had him by 2 car leangths
Third time was pretty much the same as the second but he missed 3rd.......
It would be alot closer if he knew how to drive........I got my launches and shifting down pretty good, hopefully he gets better. Sad thing for him is that I plan to have Full exhaust and Gears by the end of the summer, and when my tires wear out I'm getting some drag radials.
PS. people rag on the sumitomos alot, I personally believe the only decent ones are the htrz II tires, they hold the rubber so they last a long time of doing tons of burnouts and doughnuts and IMO they corner great. Theres other sumi's that suck though.

Well that had to have been the worst cobra driver/best ss driver of all time. It shouldn't even be close if you can drive to save your life.

That makes no sense at all, a termy is already at full boost/peak power after 1st gear. He had to have missed 2nd or something to lose after 20-100+ they have a better top end anyways. Im done arguing about both slow ass cars.

I truly believe that anything is possible. I understand that some cars are pigs, while others are factory freaks. I also understand how a driver can have a significant impact on the outcome of a heads up race. As such, the outcome of one specific race is often different than the norm.
That being said, I can assure you that a race between a stock f-body and a stock 03/04 Cobra in the 1/4 mile does not TYPICALLY end with the f-body in front. Stock Cobras typically have ET's a few tenths faster and higher trap speeds. I'm sure there are stock f-body's that have beaten stock Termis, however that is simply not what you should expect to see.
