Need a new Clutch any suggestions?
Hello all
Lil backgound: 2000 Ws.6, had transmission built 10 months ago, replaced stock clutch with Centerforce Dual Friction.
My clutch is slipping & want to know any suggestions on which clutch kit I should purchase?
NO Centerforce, They are JUNK. After the one I had in my car, NO THANKS.
I found 2 possible clutch kits:
GM PERFORMANCE from Summitracing
SPEC STAGE III+
I know that the GM one is a OEM for a Z06, I have read reviews on the spec clutch from gm highperformance magazine... sounded good but I wanted to read your experiences and find out what you would suggest?

it depends on what your build plans are, the power your making, and your type of driving.
I dropped $1000 and bought a Mcleod twin disk RXT and flywheel.
twin disk are the best way to go.

Right now the car is stock:
SLP air lid, Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust.
Planning on hitting the 450/475 RWHP range with a Head & cam kit with a LS6
intake manifold & 90MM TB. This is a DD however I do street race. I Mostly
drive on curved roads & take it up to the mountains & open it up. dont
get me wrong, its stock now. But i dont have the cash money to get
something that is not going to perform for me later on when I do those mods.
Maybe The spec Stage 3+ clutch kit will work for me? I just want a clutch kit
that will handle the stock HP for now & when I add the mods that I want to
do later I will not have to buy another clutch kit. I would rather kick out the
$$$ now for a good product. What do you think?

Clutch Selection
I agree the Centerforce leaves a lot to be desired. I went with a dual friction Centerforce when I needed a replacement because it was recommended by the speed shop that installed it. After break in, I went to the track and the car kept creeping at the line. Eventually I figured out it was the Centerforce clutch especially after reading the article in GM performance. Went with the Spec Stage 2+ and a matched flywheel and installed it myself this time. Couldn't be happier with the setup. Car has numerous bolt ons, a ZEX 125 shot and makes over 450hp at the rear wheels on the juice. Ran a 11.97 @ 116mph last year on a 85 deg day. Price is right and its been well mannered on the street and performs at the track.

I have read it is a good clutch for street use but have not used one so I can't really say with any knowledge of it. if you plan on dogging on it I would recommend an after market clutch IMO. tex oz700 x grip is rated at 550 - 600 and the z-grip is rated at 700. Both are around 950 for clutch,pp, and flywheel that comes zero balanced from them

I am liking my RAM clutch. The clutch and preassure plate only runs about 450 and it is one of the clutch brands that I have heard/ read much trouble about. In fact most of the issues I have heard about my clutch are the chatter (which I have not noticed).

SPEC, Centerforce all equal junk imo. Ram, Mcleod, or Textrailia are the only ones I'd look at. Mcleod kevlar here. Leaves rubber on the road in 4th. 35,000miles on it I believe, still holds 6,000+rpm dumps on ET Streets.
