Anyone know how to use cell phone as modem?

im about to go on the road as a over the road truck driver (cross country). well ill go nuts without internet...so my question is does anyone know how to use a cell phone as a modem or what not...i have a razr2 v9m from us cellular as my provider..i have a usb cable for it too for my laptop...i dont know if its possible to do this, but i really dont wanna have to buy the wireless card for my computer that uses cell phone signal as the internet service either as that cost like 60 bucks a month..can anyone point me in the direction that i need to go..any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

You are talking about a thing called Tethering. I DON'T THINK you can do it with your razr2. I could be wrong but i believe you have to have a PDA type phone like a blackberry to do it. Depending on which phone service you use it can cost around $50 bucks a month ON TOP OF your regular cell phone bill, so it's not that much better than just getting a wireless card.

You could however do what i do. I have a blackberry curve and i have an unlimited data package on it so i can use the internet on the phone all i want for 30 a month over the cost of the phone service itself. Of course if i wanted to use it as a modem i would have to pay the 45 dollar tethering fee on top of the service cost and unlimited data package cost.

i have heard of people being able to tether with a regular razr before..and i have unlimited data on my phone bill already

Find the telphony software for the phone. I had it for my old razr... used it like twice..

unlimited data IS NOT tethering.

Trust me, i just looked at how this works a week ago when i got my new phone.

go to at&t or something and they sell wireless card that work anywhere for x amount a month... the card should be free for like a year contract i guess idk

i dont have that kind of money currently to throw at a pda phone. if i cant get my current phone to do this looks like ill be buying the wireless card for the laptop

you can use my krzr as a modem, just have to have Motorola phone tools software and pay for internet on my sprint phone plan.......

i currently have motorolla phone tools for my razr2..and even though it is the most up to date softaware it wont recognize my phone? i dont get it

CCM is right but just go in to your wireless carrier's store and ask them what the fees are and the cheapest way to accomplish what you are looking for (do not go to a mall stand with these questions)
