How to go about getting a product made?
I have a idea for a product so a few questions...
How do I check if there is an existing product/patent...
If there IS NOT one, how do I go about getting a patent...
Any other steps before presenting to major companies (don't want to say my idea for obvious reasons lol).
Thanks

I'll be keeping tabs on this thread. I have a ton of ideas but no idea as to how I can actually make them into production!

Its a very complicated and ugly field. About a year ago my father had an idea and worked with this agency (lawyer like predator said) that works with you to design it, put it all into big words and what not. Then they present it, and try to get a patent for it.
If you get past that its a miracle...The hard part is having a company want to sell your product, thats were things get ugly, because the companies wanna screw you big time on the deal.
We wasted together more than 20k, on lawyers, blueprints, anything you can think of, that they said was "neccesary."
My advice: unless its an awesome idea that will change humanity as we know it, or if you have loads of money to waste, dont do it.

In order to get a patent, your idea/design has to be considered a Novel or Clever Idea
Yes you will need a patent lawyer, or you can do the research yourself and submitt the idea yourself. (google search, buy a patent book)
Also you will need documentation (2D prints and 3D models) and design specs (technical illustrations) of your idea to submit.
if you need a designer who can create those, PM me. Its what I do!

It's very tough unfortuntely. If you decide to pursue it and need any mechanical engineering work done (design/drawings, analysis etc) I did some work for a friend at a reduced rate that was also trying to get a patent/present to companies. Can't discuss the details but it was an injection molded product and did the design, drawings and sourced a prototype supplier. She also had me do stress analysis- which wasnt necessary but it helped sell the legitamcy of the product to the company she was selling it to. jordonmusser@gmail.com if you are interested.
