Best Sub Amp Ever......?
Just curious what some other opions are out there on the best sub amp you ever had.......?
Also any pics.....
In my opinion I would have to say the HiFonics ZUES Series 7 or 8.
We used to call it the "voice coil fryer".
Heres the specs which were underated like ALL Zed Audio amps.
Continuous power to both channels @4 ohms with less than.02%THD 300w/ch
600 watts bridged @ 8 ohms
900 watts bridged @ 4 ohms
Current output @ 4 ohms is 100 Amps
Any others out there just not happy with the sound quality of all the new garbage that's out there now. I've only heard a couple of class D sub amps that didn't sound like they were just missing something.
Steve Mantz the brain behind the best amps in my opinion actually just came out with his own line of amps. And for the $ they can't be beat!!
He designed for Autotek,Earthquake,Lanzar,Crunch, and Nakamichi to name some of the greats.
Let me know your favorite that you wish you never sold or the one that got jacked and never replaced.Last edited by LS2Tuner; 02-19-2007 at 10:24 PM.

Yeah Kenwood made a good amp back in the day....... The last REAL series they did was the "23's" as in 723,823,923,1023's that was in 94-95. It's all jap junk now....... Surface mounted circuit boards mass produced junk with a 18 db bass boost.
Here's a pic of a 923.....Had a few NO problems and clean sound quality!!

Yes it was a monster had 2 of them back in the day. The only thing i didn't like about the Orions was having to run them at such a low ohmage to get the power it brought SOO much current it was like a furnace!!
Heres a link to some pics for newbys that have NO clue of what the Beast is..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ORION-2250SX-AMP...QQcmdZViewItemLast edited by LS2Tuner; 01-28-2007 at 11:45 AM.

ZED Audio
Took a few pics of some the Zed Audio collection.
ZUES and the Autotek 7600 were the ultimate sub amps in my view. Well over a 1000 real watts @ 4ohm load with 13.5v
This is when amps were amps.
The SQ is out of this world compared to the new garbage.Last edited by LS2Tuner; 03-19-2009 at 04:51 PM.

The old soundstreams from the 90's were probably the best amps ever made IMHO
oh, and the PPI stuff was a real close second.Last edited by firechikin; 05-17-2008 at 11:24 AM. Reason: add comment

Yeah I had a few Reference-500's and their 6 channel Granite from Soundstream which were NO where close to the power of the Zues or the 6 channel Aphrodite.
To give you a visual idea look at the size of the coil on the SeriesVIII Zues board compared to the Reference500's.
The old school Soundstreams did have a good sound.Too bad they sold out like everyone else. It's now all over seas import JUNK. I ended up burning up both 500's I had.

Yeah they were not power houses, but as you mentioned have great sound quality. I had a reference 1000 powering my subs and they kicked pretty hard. I never did a comp. or anything but they were the loudest subjectively over all my friends who were running fosgate or kicker subs. Of course I think JL's stuff was better back then too. Now you can buy power for cheap and the sub doesn't matter so much. My buddy was hitting 148 149 with ONE 12 in SLAP a couple years ago.

Yeah they can have all that Class D shit and keep it on the other side of the ocean where ALL that junk comes from now.
It used to be about sound quality now it's all about profit. Shit I remember when I was getting big into the scene back in the day and if you were paying a $1 a watt for good stuff it was a good deal.
I paid more for my Power 650 Rockford than most spend on there complete systems including a alarm.......LOL
You remember the Big firm that owned Kicker....... Still Water Design's?
They had another company that made some sick subs called Blues Production. Most remember their 15" box due to the fact it had 2 1/2" ports all the way across the bottom. Anyways I they also had these bass tubes that were isiabaricly loaded with 2 10"s. If you look at the last of the 3 pics you can see the pair of them. They were $600 for 1 tube. But o'h my they hit sooo hard and tight. Everyone thinks it's just one 10 but there is another hiding behind the top one............

Thanks.
I look as it as investment's. All of my collection will bring good money tomorrow or 8 years from now. All the real audiophiles I know won't fuck with all that new garbage. Other than some of the subs I have seen NO improvement in 15 years.
Steve the "Man" is making his own amps now instead of designing everyone elese's. His class D sub amps are the only ones I have even heard that don't sound flat.
Anyways check him out if you want to buy anything new. If you know Zed Audio's rep then you know Steve is the Man.
