Spohn TA
Does anyone have any experience with this torque arm?
http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...cb07fb15a61ad3
Was wondering if it was a good idea to have the driveshaft safety loop installed w/ the torque arm. Also, can anyone tell me about the tunnel mounted TA, is that a better design?

Red- 1998 Camaro SS
I have this torque arm and do like it. I got the rod end type and the Crome-moly version which means its a little noisy but I can live with it for daily driver use. I do not have the driveshaft loop tho. I liked the torque arm though that I now have all Spohn rear end suspension.

How much weight did you save by going with the chrome moly version? What kind of difference did you notice when you installed it?

I used to have the Spohn tunnel mounted, didn't like all the noise that came with a tunnel mount version so I sold it and got a tranny mounted one. If you go tunnel mount definately get the drive shaft loop/long tubes version.

Is the tunnel mounted one stronger? How loud was the noise? I'm wondering cause my car is a daily driver so I don't want it to be completely annoying.

Not necesarily stronger, just takes stress off the tailshaft of the tranny. Personally I think the floorboards are a lil flimsy for mounting the torque arm. As far as noise, if your six speed they clunk every time you shift. Also, my rear end has some gear whine which is amplified greatly by having the TA mounted right to the floor.

I have an automatic but yeah I'm not interested in more obnoxious noises/gear whine. Thanks for your input.

I had the chassis mount Spohn torque arm and actually removed it and sold it. The clunking was just too much for me....especially since the car didn't 60 foot any better with it, than it did with the stock one. Damn thing clunked when it shifted, clunked when you hit a bump, clunked whenever it darn well pleased...Felt like the floorpan was going to come up through the console on several occasions, which was very annoying IMO. I could hear gear whine through mine as well...Now that stock torque arm is back on, my rear is quiet.

Y does that clunk happen? I have a UMI chassis mounted t/a right now and i notice clunk sometimes wen i drop it in reverse, but its not really annoying.

No idea....Everyone seems to agree that it's just the nature of the beast.

So pretty much a trans mounted TA is the way to go then it seems. Thanks for the help...glad I didn't buy it.

I use factory length edelbrock torque arm with umi's relocation bracket. It reduced my 60 foot time by about 1/10 a second. I don't have any clunking or additional road noise. I had a jegs tunnel mount and that didn't improve any performance on my car.

So what suspension mods can we do to reduce our 60 foot? I thought the stock TA was a piece of junk?

I had a lot of tire spin with the jeg's torque arm regadless of how I launched. I don't have that problem now.
