personally i have never been in that much of a hurry to run a red light! But I love seeing people get pulled over that think they are in that much of a hurry!

Thats bullsh*t! So basically, people are getting injured less and people aren't running red lights nearly as often...and, because cities are losing money from responsible driving, they shut off the cameras??? WTF??? This is just further evidence that politicians & lawmakers couldn't care less about the people they represent.

we have tons of red light cameras here in germany for about a decade now, and they have a good influence on accident rates. no plans to remove them though.

I think that the yellow light should be @ 6 seconds to account for things like wet roads and rear end collision avoidance. I've yet to receive a red light photo ticket but I come close often. Yes, I'm deligent about trying to stop and I even slow down upon intersections but sometimes you seem to get caught in the yellow light syndrome.

It depends on who you ask, according to the research done at University of South Florida College of Public Health, red light cameras “increase crashes and injuries as drivers attempt to abruptly stop at camera intersections.”
The long and short of it is that these device's primary purpose has always been about collecting revenue. Local governments may have touted the safety benefit as the reason to install these cameras but those local governments are full of crap and to the extent that they are turning off these cameras proves it.

I've never liked those cameras, and I am LEO... they are a little too "big brother" for me. We have two in the city, and the city council is talking about putting up 8 more. The new thing now is speed cameras; right now the laws in most states don't allow for them, but there is a push for it in some places. I am totally against the idea of speed cameras... that's WAY too "big brother."

I agree honesly I don't think there should be a limit as long as your being safe i mean if i'm doing 120 in and out of cars that are doing 55 then yeah give me a ticket but when its 2 am and i'm doing 90 in the fast lane leave me alone come on. I heard that the speed limit was originally set up during the gas crisis because it was the speed that most cars got the best gas milage and for timing of city lights no to trap people when there doing 10 over the speed limit like everyone else and your a cop hiding in behind bushes down the street and yet in my area we need more cops but they have enought to up speed traps come on guys and I actually want to become a cop but I want to help people not write unnecessary tickets
