WOW! I'm glad I bought my car!
I was off work today and it was nice out, so I got to play with the TA all day. I've only had the car a couple weeks and have been babying it any time I get to drive it. So I went to visit my family and hang out with some friends in Summersville, about 30 mins away. Also got an inspection sticker.
Nice to finally be 100% legal, well appearance wise at least, nevermind the fact I'm not running cats. Anway, the car is just such a blast to drive I can't get over it, such a raw feeling of power. Later in the evening I finally decided to run out down towards the lake, theres a long straight road that dead ends in a parking lot next to the lake, all empty in the middle of the week at 10 PM. This is one of the weekend racing spots, one way in so no surprises from cops. Up till now I've gotten on it a few times in the car, but never really had the chance to test the limits of the tires or launch it. Launching from around 2k seems to work well, however I can't get any traction in first or second. Surprise surprise. I can let off a little, let it grip, but there is no flooring it, or it just kicks back out again. So I've got to short shift to second and still be easy with the throttle. By third I'm finally hooking up and I'm off. Now here's what really surprised me, first to second shift, almost kicks sideways, second to third, a good strong chirp of the tires as with third to fourth, but what blew me away is when I shifted from fourth to FIFTH, at only 5k (the car is built to rev to 6500) and IT STILL CHIRPED THE TIRES. With the 4.11s that puts that shift at nearly 100mph. DAMN
Overall I'm just extremely impressed with the car. It was set up to race by the previous owner so it has a raw feeling to it, you can hear the rear end, feel/hear it going into gear, etc, it has its own special sounds and noises, but its got a great feel to it. On the 5 hour trip home a few weeks back it was getting 26.5 mpg as well! Thought that was cool, I haven't even bothered to check now that I'm just running it around, but I don't really care, its not like its my daily driver.
I also managed to get pulled over for the first time in it this evening, that was fun. I was on my way back home, sitting at the last intersection in Summersville on the highway. Anway, little hatchback toyota pulls up next to me, couple in their mid 20's in it, keep looking over, grinning. Wife on the passenger side gives me a thumbs up and nods her head still smiling, then points at the light. They clearly just wanted to see a fast car run, so I gave them a rev, to which they wind their four banger back at me. Light changes, and I ease off the line letting them get half a car ahead before I jump on it, tires spinning, giving them a show, spin a little through second, start to let off and of course I'm bus lengths ahead by now. I start to roll down the window to give them a thumbs up and slow back down, when the blue lights come on behind me. Ahhhh shit, knew I should've grabbed the radar detector. Anyway, I pull over, a cop who I recognize comes up, pretty calm, "well I pulled you over because you were kicking out the rear end there, a couple times" to which I replied I hadn't had the car long, didn't realize it'd do that, etc etc, nice and polite. Anyway, dad owns a business in town and knows most of the city cops, and this wasn't the first time I'd been pulled over in town, just the first in that car. So he writes me a warning for wreckless driving and not having my temp insurance card signed.
I'm sure I gave that couple a good laugh especially after getting pulled over. The funny thing is, they could have been beating the hell out of the car giving it all it had, and its not like the cop would've noticed them, lol.Last edited by ziominix; 03-11-2008 at 09:31 PM.

Yeah I'm glad it happened to be one of the easier to get along with cops! Definitely could've been worse.

That's cool it's good to know people. That's the best part of being a MOUNTAINEER.
