the 8.1 is a 496 cu in the 454 is a 7.4L
I'd go with a flowmaster kit if you like the V-8 rumble sound. Borla is more high pitched and sounds weak.

I have MagnaFlow on my 03 HD. I get a little tired of the interior noise sometimes. But it does have a nice deep rumble. I did not want anything too obnoxius though and even this is almost approaching loud as it breaks in. IMO - any exhaust you put on your truck is going to be loud. I have heard the Flowmasters on my brothers and they are REALLY loud. If your want Flowmaster, stick with their BigBlock Series. SLP are loud as well. I would have gone with Corsas but they did not have the application I needed. GM is putting these systems on some of their performance series trucks and they sound pretty good. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone with the Corsas' and had the muffler shop modify the system to fit. However, with any exhaust system, it is all about personal preference.

Best Exhaust system
I'd go with the Flowmaster " 70 Series " mufflers. They were originally designed for the big blocks of the 60's. I have a cat-back system on my '01 Silverado Extra-cab, 5.3, 2WD. When I called Flowmaster for advice they said go with a " 70 Series " muffler [ 3" inlet and dual 2 1/4" outlets ]. They told me that any larger tailpipes would kill off-idle torque. They also recommended the " 70 Series " because it doesn't generate the headache caused by other mufflers at hiway speed. For me it's perfect: noticable when called upon but doesn't sound like an old farm-truck with burned-out glass-packs.
