I joined your site last night, I had a 93 formula back in high school and I am currently looking for a new T/A.

I stopped by and checked this car out after work today.

Its got headers, drag radials, ac is eliminated (by pulley the salesman said) Check engine light on, could be from the exhaust but they didn't know. The exhaust was really loud but was snowing so I didn't lay down to look what it was (it had single tips if that helpes). I have a carfax in my hand for it, I had no intention of buying but I wanted to see it anyway. From what the salesman told me the kid who owned it has a few race cars. He traded it in on a cyclone. The hood and the front bumper did look a little miss allined.

I am unsure if the carfax will help you tell if it is a real firehawk but if it is tell me where to look.

I would think it would have to be in near perfect condition for that price. Even at a dealership. People just don't want to buy old V8's sport cars in this economy. I mean gas prices going up and dollar going down. It's not like it was even six months ago. I'm glad that I can hold on to my Bird for a while as she has a lot of life left in her and I'd like to get my money's worth out of her. Because, unless I hold on to her for another 20 years I'll lose money for sure on her. Even though she is in perfect condition with only 45K on her.

I bought my 2000 Firehawk for $9730 with 42k miles from a Ford dealership that didn't know what a Firehawk was. He called it a "Tomahawk edition". Also, you can send the VIN to Dave Hamburger (awesome name) at SLP and he can confirm if it's a hawk or not. He's the guy that told me my build #, too.

I think there is a good chance that is a real one. But I would definitely check the RPO to make sure its not a clone.

all firehawks are serial numbered....there should be a plate with a number under the hood...or a sticker to confirm. get ahold of slp...theyll tell ya if it is or not.

it is indeed a firehawk, I almost bought it earlier today. After taking it for a long test drive and looking everything over I realized how bad the car was treated.

Every speaker in the car was blown, both door panels were cracked, the rear view mirror was rigged to stay on, it has the worst tint job I have ever seen ( some spots are held on by scotch tape) I am pretty sure that both doors have been painted.

Now that wouldn't be a big deal its all easily fixable, but the car is modded pretty good. After seeing how poorly the inside of the car was I can only imagine the job he did modding. The rear has GM 4.10 gears installed, and they whine horribly.

And to top it off they made a bs offer on my trade in ( $4000 under nada) I ended up having him show me the sheet with what the dealer owned the car for $16199, that was when I left.

If i'm correct I believe it is just performance parts & appearance (sometimes) parts from SLP.

the firehawk is just a beefed up version of the formula. everyone knows that formulas and t/a's are the same thing except for different hoods in some years w/ram air, sometimes rims, the hatch and emblems etc... well firehawks are a slight step further. firehawks had rims/tires differing from formulas and t/a's. of course they had firehawk badging w/ the numbered plaque. "firehawk" was a limited special options package which included appearance and a little performance upgrades. firehawks were also limited in colors as well ranging from what they called mandatory red in 92 to the sunset metallic orange? or something in 02. heres some more info that i gathered awhile back if anyone was curious:

In 1992, a company by the name of Street Legal Performance(SLP), modified a factory built Formula into what they called the "Firehawk". When you were to purchase your car, you would specify that you wanted this limited option. Then the Formula you selected, was sent out to SLP to be modified. No two cars they produced were alike, for they all were special orders. SLP had anticipated making 250 of these screaming machines, but only 27 were ordered. Out of those only 25 were ever built. They were numbered 1-25 for hardtops (numbers 18 and 23 were never built), and the ONLY Firehawk Convertible was numbered 27. Of those 25 Firehawks 21 were "Mandatory" Red, 1 Aqua, 1 White, 1 Blue, 1 Green, 11 had the Competition Package, 3 came with Aluminum Engine Blocks, 1 had T-Tops and 1 was a Convertible. RPO Code: B4U

keep in mind that this is from 92...this is just an example of how different these cars are. each year after was different ranging from colors, amount of upgrades and production numbers etc:

    Standard features: $39,995
    • SLP modified 350 engine rated at 350 hp@5500 rpm and 390 ft•lbf@4400 rpm
    • 17"X9.5" Ronal Rims with Firestone Firehawk SZ P275/275/40 ZR17 tires
    • ZF 6-speed manual transmission with carbon fiber clutch
    • Stainless catalytic converter exhaust system
    • A performance Dana 44 rear axle with 3.54:1 Posi-gears
    • Special Firehawk badging decals and numbered plaque

    Competition Package: $9,995
    • Cross-drilled 13 in Brembo Ferrari F-40 brakes
    • Full roll cage minus the back seat
    • Aluminum hood
    • Recaro racing seats with full harnesses by Simpson and rear seat delete.

    The engine:
    • 4-bolt main engine block
    • Forged steel crankshaft
    • 1053 alloy forged steel "Pink" connecting rods
    • Lightweight high silicon cast aluminum pistons
    • Steel billet hydraulic roller camshaft
    • High output aluminum cylinder heads with stainless steel valves
    • Ray Falconer designed port injection intake manifold

so you see, this if very different from t/a's....slp actually didnt decide to modify t/a's until 98....

No offense to anyone, but I'm just not a fan of Firebird-based Firehawks. I'm partial to the T/A nose, the wing, standard leather, and the ground effects. It would be a good sleeper though.

To my knowledge, the only options were 2.73's, 3.23's, and 3.42's.
