Yep. I've driven both the c5zo6 and the c6 and from what I can tell the c5z06 from midrange on pulls harder and then has a harder top end. But down low they feel the same. Both cars are total rockets and haul ass. But I'd rather have a c5z06 then a regular c6 if it was all about straightline speed. But then you factor in ride quality, and the upgraded interior and it helps the c6 out. These are 2 of my favorite cars but yeah, In my experience the c5z06 sure felt faster. The butt meter is what counts no? lol

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
i always wondered this myself. good to see that GM has enough respect for the z06 series cars that the next base model can't kill it w/out mods

An update to this story for you guys. I'm racing the same C6 that I raced in the previous video. The C6 now has headers and a tune along with the Catback and Vararam intake. We are racing during the daytime so we can get some good footage of the run. I will post the video once the racing has concluded. stay tuned...

The 2008 C6 with 430 hp stock should be consistently faster than the 2004 C5zo6

My understanding is the Z51 C6 has the same type of gearing as the C5ZO6 with the first three gears being shorter.
C6s typically weigh around 3,300 pounds while a C5 ZO6 weighs closer to 3,100 pounds. So given they have roughly equal power and handling capabilities (near 1.00g), then the nod should be to the C5 ZO6.
I second the above post, where is the video!?
(Hope he didn't get arrested while making it)

Hey Guys Im Here. I actually lost the thread and couldn't find it. I am in the process of moving into my house so I can't post up the video right away. I will when I get settled but, I can tell you the outcome of the race along with the dyno numbers of both cars---both cars were dynoed on the same dyno. My 03' Z06 Dynoed 351 rwhp with a blackwing filter on the mustang dyno. His 05 C6 with Vararam, headers, catback, and tune dynoed 390 rwhp on the same dyno. The races were amazing and the faster car after the mods is the C6. The most interesting thing is both cars were dead even door to door in second, and third gear, but when we shifted into 4th the C6 very slowly crept away and was ahead about 1 car to 140 mph. The C6 is not a z51 car btw. So I believe the shorter gearing in the Z06 helped me stay close with Horsepower disadvantage until I hit 4th gear where both cars have the same ratio. We raced multiple times with the same results. I tuned my car shortly after that race and I ended up with 370 rwhp on the same dyno. We live in Michigan so gonna have to wait to race again.

I work for a chevy dealership and mod the cars for my customers after I sell them. I have raced both cars stock for stock. One of my customers owns a C5Z and a 08 Z51 with the DM exhaust. The C5Z is still the faster car at the track. After mods the C6 makes more power. I have also seen this race between lots of other owners cars that I have sold and the result is the same.

QuickSilver- 2002 Z06 vette 405hp!!!!!
Stock for stock with equal drivers the C5z will win out everytime. Now from the times I have seen the LS2 C6's have run faster times than the stock Ls3 C6's. The big reason for that is the torque management on the Ls3's are really holding them back. Stock vs stock the C5Z06 will beat out the Ls3 and Ls2 c6's with the Z51 package.

black- 98 vette
The LS2 (C6) is running the same heads and cam that are from the 01 LS6 = 385 HP with the M6 tranny. The 02 - 04 LS6 (C5 Z06 ) has the improved light weight valves and a larger cam with a more aggressive lobe profile = 405 HP with the M12 tranny. My money is on the C5 Z06
only driver error would allow the C6 to win.
