New LS3 vette?
Saw a brand new LS3 vette yesterday still wearing a 3 day old temp tag.
As I sat behind it at the light I noticed something strange on the rear mufflers. It appeared to have some electric trap doors right near the tailpipes,,,,as if this thing came factory with some sort of electric exhaust opener. Is this factory issue stuff on the new vettes now?

Cyclone Grey Metallic- 2005 GTO
The 2008 Corvette will deliver 430 horsepower and 424 lb-ft of torque on the most basic model, or 436 hp and 428 lb-ft with new, optional dual-mode exhaust system. The engine's displacement has increased from 6.0 liters to 6.2L, or 376-cubic-inches.

Yeah it's the same style setup as the new Z06's. the exhaust has buttlerfly valves that open under certain conditions to allow more airflow and better highend power. There that should answer the question.

I think what Danger means is I was only asking about the trap doors at the rear of the exhaust system that I spotted on a new vette the other day.
I am already aware of the engine change they have for the new year,,,,but thanks anyway for the thorough writeup,,,,it never hurts.

The harder you accelerate the more it opens. I took the fuse out that operates the system. Mine stays open all the time.

Pewter- Y2K WS6
basically this allows a nice mellow tone when your setting still or in low throttle. But much higher exhaust note when your really into it and want/need it. Was covered on an auto show somewhere I saw, very neat concept. That's on the Z51 package or something like that.

Danger has no business on the corvette part of this board anyway...

black- 2002 firehawk 94 Z28
my local dealer pointed it out to me they are open during cold starts and re open during wot.
he said its a 6hp option but that is under rated . he said he could feel a pretty big difference between the two.

Monterey Maroon Metalic- 2000 Z28
If I were to buy a new 'Vette, I'd skip the optional exhaust and throw on Magnaflow. Kind of a cool gimmick though for someone who doesn't want to mod.
