Gto , Firebird, Z28
I will post this in one other place but I will start HERE! Im looking for a car from 1999 to 2006, and I was reading the goats with the ls1 had more punch in HP then the fire, z28? why? then we can get into the ls2 that the goats had >but Im wondering why the goats had more HP from the early ls1s? then the Fire, Z28, SS?

Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
GTO LS1 had LS6 intake manifold and throttlebody. Also had revised emissions system deleting EGR. I might be wrong, but I think the heads had larger ports than the LS1 in the 4th gen F bodies as well.

Navy Blue Metallic- 98 T/A, 00 FBVert, 78T/A
^^ correct but they also had different heads and cam profile in addition. The GTO's came with the 243/799 heads as the 98/99 had 853's and the 00-02 came with 241's. The C5 97 LS1 came with different heads, can't remember if they were the 241's or something different and different cam profile over the 98 f body LS1's. With the LS6's being phased out due to Corvettes going to the LS2 and the LS6/1 were by then, considered the same block just with different cam profile, intake and heads, between the two the Ls1/Ls6 are regarded as the same engine
The GTO LS2 are a 4" bore vs the LS1's 3.898", came with 243/799 heads and a bigger cam profile, intake was slightly larger over the LS6 for the throttle body however it under performed compared to the LS6 unless it was ported. Also the injectors were different over the LS1 as well as tuning.Last edited by SMWS6TA; 11-21-2019 at 09:27 AM.

The most important thing to note is that LS1 F-Bodies typically dynoed ~300 rwhp, which is equivalent to what the Corvettes dynoed, with a higher advertised power rating; realistically the F-Bodies power rating was underrated, be it on purpose to lend more street cred’ for the Corvette, or that the drive train on the F-bodies were that much more efficient in tranferring the power to the wheels.
