Going to check out a trans am.....tips.....
Hey guys, going to check out a TA later this week. Any tips for an ex mustang guy? Specific things to check out? Common problems? Besides the usual used car issues....

Check the door panels they have a habit of cracking
also the stering wheel controls there is a phone cord like thing in there that after years of turning the stering wheel can fray and cause the horn and all controls not to work-if cats are off listen for exhaust leak or even if not good to check for anyways-and the weather stripping around the t-tops
Good luck! I just bought one for the 2nd time-man did i miss it! 2002 Pewter ws6-im stoked!

Yeah a carfax is a good investment once you find what your looking for-ask them if they have one or you can purchase it yourself-also ask if the title is salvage or not-

I would check the Lights up front first.
Cycle the headlights a few times and listen for any grinding noise or abnormal behavior.
Check the DRL's and make sure the housing is not cracked or damaged any way or you will be buying bulbs every time it rains or you wash the ride.
I would move on to the doors and check that there is no sagging or signs of previous sagging(scuffs on the kick plate, damage from the nadar pin striking the door)
While you have the doors open look at the seats and check the bolsters for wears, tears.
Check the rear lights and make sure all the housings are intact with no cracks as these are pricey.
No take the car for a spin and keep the radio off and listen for any whine coming from the rear. Also listen for any bumps coming from underneath as that would be a bad tranny mount.
These are about all the common problems I have had after buying mine but I knew they had the problems and paid acordingly.

I found a 00' TA that is pretty modded.....TSP lid, CAI, BG ram air, FAST 90/NW 90, Meziere EWP, SLP fan switch, TCI 3500, tranny cooler, Pacestter Lt's, ORY, Borla, ASP pulley, TSP 231/231 .598/.598 112 LSA, AFR small bore 225's, LS1 Edit, automatic with a stall, 18" wheels, ws6 hood, 4.10 gears (also will give me the stock rear end with stock gearing), interior looks perfect. The car has 60k on it, the heads have less than 5k on them. The guy just bought a new house and is looking for cash to dump into his house.
Asking price is $14,500........what do ya think?Last edited by nmcgrawj; 11-20-2007 at 11:03 PM.

seems to be good price although alot of the parts are not top end parts.
Gonna rev pretty high on the highway cause of the 4.10 gears.
Is the rear a 12 bolt/ford 9"? What did he put in place of the stock rear or did he just change the gears?
Mabye you should give me his number and I will try the car out first

i would stay away from anything that was already moded like that... i'm sure it was beat on! wait for another car to come along, you will be better off in the long run.... it is more fun to do your own mods anyway....

Well.....to be honest. I've been in this game for a while....i bought a "stock" mustang.....that ended up being beat to hell and back. These cars are built for one reason. Unless you luck up and find one from an old man or a lady, chances are they get beat on.
I dont think using the reasoning that "its stock" is a good foundation to say it wasnt beat on. I think we all "Beat" on these cars....its just a matter if u take care of them outside of that.
