No cats = Less power? WTF!
I have a 02 TA and i just had an off road y put on with no cats, it sounds great but for some reason it seems like i have to press the gas down further to get it to go anywhere now. Before when i had the cats it seemed to take off with a tap of the gas. I also have a diablo tune but i did not change anything from when i had the cats on. Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas as to why this might happen?
Thanks,
Tony

Computer will need to relearn the lack of cats for a few miles.
But it may seem a little less powerful in the very low RPM's. I am sure you picked up power above 3,000RPM's though.

so if you take off your cats you lose low end power?

It could lose a VERY little amount. Shouldn't really though.
The more open the exhaust, the more the powerband moves toward the upper RPM's.
Now understand, most cars you won't be able to feel the difference.

since were on the exhaust thing, Mr. Lous, if your O2s are burnt out can it cause any power loss?

Im sure thats whats happening to me. My car was overloading at low RPMs and misfiring. I changed them back in april but the burnt out soon after that. It doesnt "overload" as much now but it still does it. It sucks because i paid 140 bucks for both of the front o2s. Ive dont have cats but i have sims. Will a tune help out my o2 problem?

If you get a tune, ditch the sims.
No O2 sensor should go out without at least 100,000 miles on it.

the reason being that you have less power is simple my friend!! with out cats you are not creating back-pressure. back pressure is ideal for cars that are naturally aspirated. you may want to add 2 high flow cats that create enough back pressure but optimize power at the same time:_) just so ya know....losing back pressure or running a striaght pipe (off-road) is ideal for cars that are running blowers, chargers, turbos.

Creating back pressure will make it feel like it has more power. But in reality, if you run the car on the dyno, you'll see more peak power. You may or may not see ET improvement at the track, just depends. You might pickup 1 mph or so in the traps. I personally like the way it sounds (and smells) with cats on. The sound is more mellow, but I'm an old fart so that explains that. The smell of an LS1 without cats stinks though like nothing else.

Loss of back pressure, be it removing the cats or installing cut outs ,will result in loss of low end torque and slim mid range power gains. Period.
