    too broke for an ls1

im 18, and rounding my senior year in high school, about to be a broke college student and I NEED an ls1. I currently have a 95 3.4L firebird and have the ls1 fever. Yet I can absolutely not afford one wi/ decent miles, so im thinking either lt1 or finding a 100K-115K mile ls1 to daily drive for a couple years and then rebuild it after two or three years. Is this a terrible plan? will the ls1/t56/4l60e hold up with that many miles on it if i'm not driving the shit out of it? and finally how much better are ls1's than the lt1's?

    Thanks
God i love American v8's (and by that I mean GM and Mopar, but mostly just GM)

    05 Wrangler
    00 Z28 sold :-(

People have LS1s and don't drive the shit out of it?? Sounds like a good plan to me...except for the 4l60-e part, you'd be better off with the T-56 if you're short on dough. Mines a auto....but I got it for 8700 with 78,000 on the clock fully loaded. Deals are out there, just keep looking. Camaros usually go for less than a TA for some reason..especially the WS6. Look at a Z28 or SS and you might find one in your price range.

How much are you looking to spend? You can pick up ls1's for pretty cheap. Just shop around...they're out there.

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

definatly shop around. if you just want an Ls1 car and no special fluff [leather/power windows, etc] then you can get a stripped down Z28 and ttops for about 8500.

don't buy the first one you see.
    be patient
the car WON'T get you laid in college.

    good luck, bud.

but the main thing i need to know is, will the ls1 hold up with 100-150K miles on it for a coupla years until i get the dough to rebuild it right?

If the car was taken care of the mileage wont matter. But like I said...keep shopping around.

Not sure if this car has been sold, but just to give you a general idea this is how cheap ls1s can go for. And it only has 62k miles on it. Not too shabby eh?

I think most people will tell you that an LS1 in no less reliable than any other car. Expect a car with that mileage to need some maintenance, fluids changed and flushed, belts & hoses, the usual stuff. Plan on doing all your maintenance before you start modding it and you can end up with a solid ride!

Good Luck not driving the shit out of it!
