2005 Ram- 1978 Firebird
Needed: Stock 10 bolt rear OR carrier
I'm looking for a stock 10bolt rear, i have a 1997 Firebird formula with a 3.23 (gu5) stock rearend, LSD, ABS and traction control, the sensors and the 'gear' for the sensors is at the end of the axles, not inside of the differential housing. I am interested in either the entire axle from hub to hub in good condition, or just the carrier. Preferably a 3.23 LSD rear, will suffice for a 3.42 lsd rear if i have to, and I'm not sure if a 3.08 rearend would work or not, being as I think the carrier size is different for a 3.08 gear? I am not sure of this, confirmation would be nice. I am located in Northeast Pennsylvania, Millerton PA to be exact, zipcode 16936, however, I am willing to drive however far to get this axle or carrier if i can pick it up cheap enough. Please let me know!

Well, that answered the question I haven't asked yet, i was wondering if a 98-02 rear would work, apparently not.
I'm considering rebuilding this current diff, provided I can get parts inexpensively, otherwise I'll either replace it or buy an aftermarket unit.

Well, you have 3 Channel ABS (93-97) and I have 4 channel ABS (98-02)
It is easier to put a 93-97 rear into a 98-02.
The 93-97 rear has the sensor on the top of the pumpkin, and the 98-02 has the sensors(2) on each end of the rear.
You can put a 98-02 rear into a 93-97, but you have to drill a hole on top of the center section for the sensor.
Or, if you are not worried about having ABS or TCS, you can simply install the rear with no issues.

i swear i've got the most screwed up thing ever man. I HAVE the sensors out at the ends of each axle!, nothing in the pumpkin! ALSO!!! my door code says GU5 (3.23 rear gear) and on the ring and pinion its stamped as 3.42!! It all is starting to make some sense now. I'm sure this rearend has been changed. The center pin i took out of the diff was galled and worn out, so i went to GM and ordered a new pin for a 1997 firebird, it had grooves ground into the sides for oil to get in so it could lubricate the spider gears, yet the 'original' did not.

I know a bit about the ford 8.8's, was studying those when i was considering an axleswap on the ranger. Regardless...
NO my abs and traction do not work one stitch. The wires are all connected to the sensors as well as where they plug into the car, i even took the sensors out and cleaned them up when i did the brakes recently, 'course that aint gonna help if its the wrong damn thing, lol. However, the carrier uses what i believe to be the eaton style limited slip (clutches) because i know for a fact its not the other one, FUCK i cant remember the name lol.

Thats just weird. So they just changed sensor styles from 97-98+, was the wiring harness where it connects to the car the same? I've looked at a few of the options on a non-sponsor site and the auburn looks to be the cheapest, other than a lockright or trac-loc whichever i cant remember, but to my knowledge the tracloc/lockright you only replace the spiders and NOT the carrier, in which case i would probably be in good shape with something like that?
